After a little Googling, there are some out there who think reps on the Bench Press are the most worthless/useless...
The BP is part of Gil Brandt's famous explosiveness formula: add broad jump + vertical jump + # of BPs, and supposedly a player who is at 70 or higher has tools to be an explosive NFL star. Rick Spielman was reportedly a big believer in the Brandt formula.
I sort of understand that the jumps may indicate something about a player's leg muscles that would translate to the field. Even if you never broad jump in a game, maybe it shows you can fire out rapidly or something. Vertical makes sense, especially for receivers and DBs. But without any disrespect to Brandt, the number of presses at 225 seems non-predictive. Maybe the weight lifted should be a percent of the player's weight, or adjusted by position maybe, but 173 pound Jordan Addison and 314 pound Christian Darrisaw are both asked to lift 225. (And both declined.) To me, it would mostly tell you which guys spend their time in the weight room, for what that's worth.
