PPA 2023 Results

After another full year of making predictions, it's time to announce our winners for the PPA contest!



In his second straight year winning the award, legendsofthenorth claims the batting title with a pristine .478 average. idavike was very close in second at .450, while we had a tie for 3rd place between VFL and diehardtwinsfan at .364.

The batting title goes to me with 16 extra base hits, but VFL finished very closely behind with 15. Drank came in 3rd with 11 while getting the most per prediction.

Awards will be distributed to legendsofthenorth and VFL (as I am not eligible for receiving awards) soon.

While we're here, let's go over some numbers as the contest has been running for 4 years now.



legendsofthenorth and I now both have 3 titles under our belts, but Oracle Bone Diviner and tfundermann had the best overall seasons in 2020 and 2022 for those categories. I also have all of the single season stats in one table:



Nemmy had the most singles in a season with 15 in 2020, tfundermann and I both hit 7 doubles in a year, Legends hit a whopping 5 triples in 2021. Only 3 HRs have been hit among the collective (the actual total is 9). 0 grand slams.

As a collective, we hit .252 in 2020, .245 in 2021, .290 in 2022, and .272 in 2023. We're getting somewhat better as time goes on.

I'll compile career stats later and compare those, that should be fun.


Finally, let's finish off the year by highlighting the two home runs hit this year, easily the lowest odds predictions that came true.

Not only did vikingpwr predict that Cousins would get injured, which is already something that has never happened in his career, but Mullens did indeed get put in and got benched for Hall. This is all despite Josh Dobbs coming in and looking like he'd finish the year at QB. This prediction, made back in early September, is one of the craziest ones to come true in my humble opinion.

Drank
Made on November 11th, Drank was guessing that Hunter would just so happen to pick up 6.5 sacks in the final 8 games... and then he did. Hitting that on the mark when half-sacks are a thing makes it very difficult to precisely forecast. Hunter was on a 1.1 sack per game tempo which would have placed him at 18.5 sacks, but instead Drank somehow knew that it'd drop to 0.8 sacks per game.
