Jefferson has zero leverage. He can play out his Rookie Contract and then get franchised twice. I hate this popular notion of 'catering' to a Wide Receiver.
Kwesi can offer Kirk what he's willing to pay. Kirk can say no. That doesn't force Kwesi to 'reach' for Nix.
We've seen this show twice now. This GM likes to patch all the holes before the Draft. So if Kirk walks I fully expect Kwesi will immediately ink Brissett as Option A. Or possibly Tannehill.
He then enters the Draft with a concrete offer made to the Commanders and the Patriots to move up for Maye or Daniels. When they in all likelihood rebuff him or take something from a Team with more to offer it becomes incumbent on Kevin's evaluation of McCarthy, Nix and Penix.
O'Connell may not pound the table for any of them. But if he’s got a clear preference then KAM can survey the field. Perhaps trade back a bit if Flores thinks pass rushing IDL would help more than Edge. Perhaps trade back a bit anyway and still have a shot at Latu or Newton. Get some extra ammo to move back into the 1st and get whomever is available that also has a stamp of approval from KOC.
Or Kwesi could fail to get back into the 1st to get a QB. That's OK. They've obviously already been watching tape on the '25 QBs.
The point is that you should never walk into the Draft absolutely having to force a pick because of need. Nick the Pick Mullens was throwing for nearly 400 per against a Team that should have been in the Superbowl. The Offense will survive without Cousins.
But if they do trust that small sample size with Nix I'm good with that. It's completely binary. If they're wrong, they're fired. Cut and dried.
None of these kids is a perfect fit. Daniels and Penix excel at throwing deep. Maye excels at Quick Game. Williams excels at off-platform throws. McCarthy was in a run-first Offense.
O'Connell could see enough of what works in his system but he could also see things he can change to take advantage of whomever. Analyze that potent Screen Game at Oregon. Look into why Michigan runs so much better using the same scheme. Explore more deep shots like Washington and LSU employ. Lean into Quick Game that North Carolina does a good job with.
In the end, they shouldn't go into this Draft needing anything other than one thing: more Talent.
For the first time in six years I am hoping Cousins leaves. We will survive without him.
I dont really care if we dont get McCarthy, I think Penix will play better next year, great arm very talented. I wouldnt be a bit dissapointed if we took him at NO 11, and he will be there at No 11.
I kinda miss Rick Spielman, he was a good GM and he knew how to evaluate the intangibles better towards the end of his career. Trader Ricks biggest problem was he listened to Zimmer way to much when we went through all those damn years taking cornerbacks, which why the cupboards are bare now.
