Having loads of cap and high draft picks does not translate into winning in the NFL. Many teams with the most cap and high draft picks lose year after year after year even decades... meanwhile teams with limited cap and lower draft spots continue to win year after year compare teams like Bears Arizona etc vs Steelers Ravens etc
Most big money FAs are not worth it. Teams like the Ravens sign lower cost FAs who can work out - this comes down to player evaluation and helps build a team but again itr doesn't require a lot of cap money.
First round QBs bust at a 89% rate. Having a QB on a rookie deal doesn't mean you will rebuild your team and become a winner even if you hit on one (LAC JAX etc). Only 2 QBs on rookie deals won SBs and one is the GOAT. QB doesn't account alone for Wins and Losses he is a part of a team but yes he is the most important single player on the team so maybe he accounts for 15 20 percent of a win or loss. Even the super mobile GOAT needed his OL rebuilt for him to win a SB. A top 10 QB improves your odds of winning a SB but even that is far from a guarantee. Remember when Tom Brady stopped winning SBs until he had a good team rebuilt for him again.
So then how do you build a winner in the NFL simple DRAFT WELL. Everything stems from that even the Lions who had loads of cap money and high draft picks for 30 years and even hit on the occasional draft pick even at QB it did not matter - then Holmes came in and they started drafting well he also made some great trades and signed some solid FAs (again player evaluation is the key there just as it is with drafting!)...
This is what is killing the Vikings Kwesi and his crew are TERRIBLE at player evaluation. Spielman his last 6 years had 6 terrible drafts. Let's get this straight good drafting teams SEA KC DET hit on their first round picks then build the team with the later picks getting more solid starters and rotational players. Kwesi's first draft is a complete bust worse than what Spielman did. His second draft only produced one bona fide starter and he wanted to trade down and not take him and KOC talked him out of it. I know the it takes 3 years argument but good drafting teams are getting significant play from their players right from the start that is changing in today's NFL.
