Agreed. I'd like to land a top notch QB prospect, but the cost of moving up is so darn expensive and we saw the Panthers epically fail at it, I'll pass. Not that I'd rule out any trade-ups, but nothing involving multiple prime assets like the Panthers did.

We can't just assume that KAM will fail to draft the right players, there's no point to doing any draft coverage if that is the case.

On O'Connell's side, he has been able to get the passing game going very well with Cousins. Give him a full offseason with a QB of his choice, and I wouldn't guarantee disaster. There are building blocks here - the WRs are great, the OL has become much better at pass protection. Yeah, the running game sucks and O'Connell has no idea how to counter blitzes, but I'm not completely giving up hope that he can ever figure that out. I think it's possible he could develop a QB in this system... I'm not overly confident but not incredibly pessimistic. Did we really hire O'Connell to then become afraid of ever trusting him to develop a legit QB prospect, just to continue to bring Kirk back and essentially retry the Spielman plan? They have to take the shot at some point.

Tomorrow night is very important for us. Specifically does Penix have a big game? Him struggling tomorrow night makes it much more likely the cost of getting QB4 isn’t as significant. Does McCarthy actually look like an NFL QB tomorrow night?

The tone from fans online is heavy to draft a QB round 1. If Williams/Maye/Daniels/Penix are all gone though…YIKES. Those same people also almost unanimously hate Nix/McCarthy. Kwesi is in a real tough spot.

My guess today: he overpays a decent amount to trade up for QB 4 whoever that ends up being

I’m not saying you are wrong but I think you’re wrong on that. Btw I like both guys and think both can turn into good NFL qbs. But like any young qb, you need the right coaches and system around them.

I think there is a really good chance we draft a qb in round one. And I heard on a podcast today that the Vikings had a strong contingent at Washington game last week and will at the national championship game. If that is true they are clearly watching penix.

Also QB needy teams with new head coaches coming in.

They've been rumored to be doing a ton of work and scouting on this QB. Which should be expected given the situation they're in.

I have to admit Pennix scares me. The injury history and the lefty thing. I like O'Neill but this is two years in a row we've lost him late in the season and he seemed to get beat more than usual when I've watched this year. I could be wrong on that but I have some concerns there. With a left handed QB he'd be the blindside protection.

There are too many QB needy teams above us that if we do take sloppy fifths there is a high likelihood we reach and draft someone who isn’t worth the spot and it sets us back half a decade.

I have zero problem drafting a QB if the right one is there but the notion we “have to” draft one is a recipe for failure
