It is staggering that for all of the mercurial personalities that have filtered through Minnesota that Kirk Cousins is the one who has inspired the most division. Moss, Peterson, Diggs amongst so many. It's Kirk Cousins that has resulted in the biggest divide. A guy who if he wasn't an NFL QB you would most like think was the dorky suburban dad neighbor on a 90's family sitcom.

Keep in mind it's not really Kirk's fault. He's not doing controversial things or anything, just the weird divide him being here has caused.

I would suspect Because everything about kirk is a little odd. He was a fourth round draft pick in the same draft his team drafted a qb #2 overall and he ended up being much better. He is also like you said a nerdy guy, but also really popular among his teammates. He doesn’t have the stringed arm (is above average though) and not very athletic compared to other nfl qbs, yet he is better than like 2/3 of the starting qbs. He is always pretty good in regular season and not so good in the playoffs. It’s all just a weird situation with him. He is like the total mr grey. You can’t paint him with any other brush.

The question is if Cousins is so bad and so expensive that a team can’t be built around him why would Atlanta sign him when they have a higher pick than the Vikings and can trade up higher easier? If the QBs at the top are so much better and cheaper than Kirk the odds of anyone ahead of us signing him instead of taking what’s there should be zero.

If his salary is too high that a winning roster can’t be built around him, if he holds a team back so much that it’s impossible to win a playoff game or have any more than a “gravitational pull toward 500” why wouldn’t a team take a QB at 8 or move up higher if they are in the market for a QB? It’s well established that Kirk can’t win playoff games, depletes the roster with his salary and is a statue in the pocket so make it make sense that this is even a conversation.

The Vikes are going to be the go to name for rumors until this is settled. Unsettled QB situation, a roster in transition but also close enough to being a wildcard team, so they could rebuild or go for it. They've They been nakedly researching QB's for a few years it seems. I think on that podcast that Funky shared Arif mentioned that the Vikes have been deep in research on QB's since Rick's last year, if that's true then every team and agent will know it. The Vikings can fit whatever narrative that anyone with an agenda needs to spin.

Until they sign and or Draft someone the Vikings are going to be the usual suspects in every rumor.

If Daniel Jones was so bad why did the Giants give him 40 per year? If Watson and Wilson were washed up, why did Cleveland and Denver trade for them and give them massive extensions?

Teams overpay for QBs all the time and for the first time in 6 seasons the Vikings won't be one of those teams.

I agree with your point but Atlanta is only picking 3 spots ahead of us. And their owner is 81 years old and they haven’t made the playoffs in awhile. They play in a weak division and have some a lot of talent on offense. If they sign Kirk they should be the favorites to win their division. Now how far they go in the playoffs that is a different story.

And it makes zero sense, the only way Lance would be our starting QB in 2024 would be if we traded for him in 2023, given him a full year on the bench (though he likely would have ended up starting), then potentially compete for the job in 2025.

Why did the Cowboys trade a 4th for him, just so he could be their #3 QB the whole year? He only has one year of control left and probably won't be gifted their backup job. He has basically no trade value, they will likely hold on to him.

It doesn’t make sense. He is a statue, can’t do better than a .500 record and three spots in the draft is a huge advantage. To move up to three would be a lot easier from 8 than 11.

They could sign JJ or even Drake Maye and both would be an improvement
