A couple comments on Florio's recent take posted above:
- Florio mentions that the Vikings only had to fend off the Jets to sign Cousins in 2018, which isn't true. When the legal tampering period started in the 2018 offseason, 4 teams called Cousin's agent, Mike McCartney: Minnesota, NYJ, Denver and Arizona. Then, three of those teams provided offers: Minnesota, NYJ and Arizona. The Cardinals came in 3rd initially because their offer was lower than the Jets and Cousins like Minnesota more because they were more "win-now" from their 2017 NFC Championship appearance. The details can be found in this Vikings Wire article from March 2018 - link). Florio sort of nonchalantly states that it was "only" the Jets that the Vikings had to fend-off, and while there wasn't a massive amt of teams vying to give Cousins a fully-guaranteed deal that offseason, it certainly wasn't just the Vikings and the measly Jets.
- All Florio has to do is look at past precedence to predict the future, and by just doing a bit of research on the last 4-5 offseasons, you see that yes, QB-hungry NFL teams will still take on aged QB's with an injury history. Carson Wentz - who suffered injuries in Philly and Indy - still had a market when Washington traded for him in the 2022 offseason. A 33 year-old Russell Wilson that had surgery the season before was traded to Denver for a bunch of picks. Teddy still had a market in Carolina (in 2020) and Denver (in 2021) after the injury he suffered in 2016 and a backup stint with New Orleans. Kirk wil definitely have a market, even at 36 and coming off the Achilles and it only takes one team to offer the deal he's looking for, and if the past is any indication, there typically is always one out there.
