My problem is 2 years. This class is deep, and we're drafting 11. If we can't find a QBOTF in this class without trading up to 2 or 3, then we're not looking that hard. I don't mind Kirk at 1 year, or really anyone at 1 year. 2 years is wasting a new QBOTF. Waiting till next year to draft a QBOTF is a gamble given how deep this class is compared to next year. We have a gift drafting 11, one that may not repeat itself next season, especially if ownership wants to remain competitive. There's plenty of cap room in 2025 to fill some much needed holes on defense starting this season, and we have the ability to transition to a young QB with a ton of offensive firepower around him...
So yeah, 2 years... that's a problem. To be fair so is 60-65, 90, or really any number Kirk is going to ask for. Now in all honesty, Kirk can't talk to other teams (in theory), so this is nothing but a high stakes game of poker, and one that Kirk can ask for the moon but may not actually get, because in theory he has no idea what offers are going to be on the table as of now.
But if we sign him to any of these deals, it really ends the rebuild at the QB position, and that will be a mistake.
Not true. Minnesota can absolutely draft JJ McCarthy in the 2nd, stash him behind Cousins for 2 years and then offer him a Team-friendly extension before he becomes the Starter. The 'Jordan Love' plan.
