KAM and KOC love Kirk but are willing to let him hit free agency? Weird.
Context is king. Kwesi and Kevin wanted flexibility before the season began. And then O'Connell failed to coach up 3 QBs after Kirk went down. Exposing his unwillingness to adjust his Playcalling to account for the strengths and weaknesses of each Player.
And I don't want to hear for even a second that Mullens was successful. Turnovers kill Kevin O'Connell coached Teams. He's yet to win one when the Vikings lose the TO battle. Which is pretty common for any Team.
Mullens turned the ball over too much. As did Dobbs. Hall couldn't read the field.
It became blatantly obvious to the GM that his HC won't make adjustments. With that knowledge, going back to the negotiating table with Kirk now makes more sense.
I also wonder if seeing Dobbs and Hall struggle with the playbook opened Kwesi's eyes to just how complex the passing scheme is. He's on a 4 year deal. Even if he picks a QB in the 1st this year will the kid come up to speed fast enough to start early during 2024? Can he afford to go into his final year not knowing if they picked the right QBOTF?
Which leads me to believe Kirk is back for 2 years at a minimum while they look to a more long-term developmental prospect either in the 2nd or 4th Round.
