For all the "b-b-but what do you want him to do, he was dealt a bad hand" knuckleheads. Is it really a good sign if the coach you hired was dealt a bad hand and did exactly what was expected with that bad hand? Wouldn't it be an encouraging sign if he could still find a way to win with that bad hand? That would be a true sign of genius. That would be championship caliber. If you do what's expected, you're just Status Quo Joe, a .500 kinda guy. You're nothing special. People aren't talking about KOC in a, "OMG look what he's accomplishing with all the trash" sort of way. He's doing exactly what was expected and people are making excuses for it. About as predictable as it gets.

In fact, that's what the pro "opportunity" crowd was saying back when we lost Kirk and JJ. Ummmmm maybe we should embrace the "opportunity" and plan for the future instead of trying to win a few extra meaningless regular season games with 4th string QB's. Maybe answer some questions about Hall and the young guys. Sounds like that would be more valuable than making a futile run at 9-8 and another one-and-done. OMG you tanking people are so ridiculous *cursing*

Like winning 13 his first season with an aging and mediocre roster?

Or being in the playoffs 14 games in after losing his best player on offense for half those games?

He has his faults for sure, but overall he is a good HC who has done enough to be given a chance to learn from his mistakes.

But if that attitude came from above, it likely isn't over. Someone didn't want to let the 2016 season play out with a backup and draft a rookie in 2017 (one of those "great QB years"). They didn't want to draft after the Keenum/Bradford/Bridgewater trio left. The team has picked one QB higher than round 5 in a decade. Even if KOC wants to develop a rookie, I'm not sure the owners would endorse it. The Wilfs might have hired a guy who promised he wouldn't take them through 3 years of growing pains with a young QB and will keep using Cousins and then sign some new veteran in free agency in 2026 or whenever.

Yeah, I'm using speculative "might have" a lot. But no one has any evidence to the contrary other than our fan desires. Meanwhile many if not most new head coaches taking over a team want to get their own QB within the first two years - even Zimmer, allegedly a curmudgeon not interested in offense, scouted QBs and endorsed Teddy. But KOC has only dabbled with a 5th-rounder and the team made a trade to bring in Dobbs, showing at least some fear of going with rookie Hall.

"His guy" is Kirk Cousins. He found him. He told us all in multiple press conferences he loves him and is looking forward to having him back on the team.

I have that concern as well, but Kirk isn't immortal and the salary cap is a thing. The fact that they didn't extend him this past offseason is a series indicator that at some level they are or were at peace with the idea of Kirk not being here... or they're completely insane and incompetent. You don't expose a starting QB to Unrestricted Free Agency like they have set themselves up to do with Kirk, unless you are aware of the possibility he will leave.

I would think a major injury to Kirk would further illustrate the point there needs to be a plan in place for after Kirk.

I know the Kirk crusader crowd are having fun pointing out how Dobbs bombed and Mullens foibles as reason Kirk should be here eternally, but that's hardly a real serious point against moving on, or shouldn't be. Dobbs and Mullens are career backups/spot starters at best, and Hall is a 5th round rookie. Having to start those guys for more than a game or two is like treating a bullet wound with Superglue. It shouldn't be expected to work.

If I recall, when they traded for Dobbs, didn't they also try to get Jacoby Brissett before him and turned to Dobbs when that didn't happen? I find that interesting because he has more starting experience and would seem to fit the mold of a bridge QB better than Dobbs or Mullens do.

I still believe there's a very likely chance Kirk is gone. They'd have to extend him before his contract voids in March. Will he be far enough along to pass a physical for that to happen?

Sounds like a mixture of strawmen or multiple strawmen. 1) We can't save money with Kirk still on the team. 2) The idea of tanking has nothing to do with Kirk. 3) If you're assuming we will start losing after the Kirk era is over, we've gone 50-39-1 since Kirk arrived in 2018, 90 games ago, with 2 playoff appearances, 1 division title, 1 playoff win, and ZERO conference championship appearances. In the 90 games prior to Kirk's arrival with scrub journeyman and useless rookies, we were 50-40-0, with 3 playoff appearances, 2 division titles, and a conference championship appearance. So what exactly will we be missing? I know what we'll be $aving. But yeah, congrats for keeping the status quo going Kirk, exactly what you were brought here to do.

We are bottom 10 in every statistical category for rushing this season. Bottom 10 in yards, yards per carry, first downs, rushes for 20+, rushes for 40+ (0), TDs, fumbles and we are one of only 2 teams to have more rushing fumbles than rushing TDs. This is a huge reason why this team struggles so much to score 30+

Except we know Spielman looked into moving up to get Fields and Kwesi looked into moving up for Richardson. They don't do that if they aren't empowered from above.

And has been pointed out there's the fact that Kirk offered an actual Home Town Discount and Kwesi said no because of the length.

I know Shanahan is next level but the 9ers ran off LT with 2 TEs to his left AND the WR crashing down the Line.

They obliterated the LOS so bad Mattison could have strolled for 5 easy yards.

It doesn't take a genius to run behind your future HOF LT Williams. Or to put a good run blocking TE next to him. Add a 2nd TE and the WR crashing down and you've got something cooking.

Who's the 2nd Best LT in the League? Arguably Darrisaw. Oliver is the equal or better than the 9ers blocking TE. KJ is a good blocking WR.

So what does Boy Wonder do? Hand the ball off up the middle ad infinitum. And not just this year. He did the exact same thing last year.

As Funky says, make it make sense.

Both coaches are product of this current trend of hiring younger coaches who specialize in offense. I think Nagy was like 39 when he got hired by Chicago. Nagy benefited from the true offensive mind in Andy Reid, as did KOC with Sean McVay.
