I saw a YT comment mentioning something about KOC being like Matt Nagy, and yeah, after some light digging it looks like KOC is on the Matt Nagy trajectory lol. Never called plays, never developed a QB, fetched coffee for an actual offensive mastermind, had a mostly fraudulent first season that ended with a disappointing one-and-done loss to an underwhelming QB at home with Donatell on the staff, lost his elite DC and never recovered, going 12-10 over his next 22 games, missing the playoffs in year 2, and then eeking into the playoffs his 3rd year as a .500 team, before losing the locker room and fizzling out. A few details are in a different order, but it's eerily similar.
And stop me if any of this sounds familiar, from his wiki page:
"Nagy has received praise from players and media for his positive attitude and effect on team morale.[159] Although the Bears struggled offensively, various outlets noted his personality enabled him to maintain locker room cohesion; in an October 2019 article, when the offense was one of the worst-ranked units in the league, NBC Sports Chicago's JJ Stankevitz divided Nagy into two personas: "Nagy the leader, and Nagy the offensive mind" with the former being "unquestioned."[160] When Nagy's firing loomed in December 2021, Chicago Sun-Times writer Rick Morrissey explained "the Bears fell in love with a person, not a football coach."[161]"
It's got "culture" vibes written all over it LOL. Just replace Nagy with O'Connell and it's practically the same. No word on if KOC has started a "dub club" yet or a "sweep the sheds" program, but if you see a disco ball installed in the locker room, it might be time to panic xD.
Just 2 more years to go. Someone let Maestro know.
