KOC likes long developing plays/routes. For Mattison that's almost a self fulfilling prophecy. His blocking isn't really all that great btw. Chandler either. But at least Chandler is a weapon near the LOS. The only modicum of value Mattison brings in that part of the field is his mediocre pass blocking. He's a terrible receiver and he's shown to be bad in tight spaces.
The biggest problem with Mattison is that he's just not fast or quick. Personally, I remember him being faster and quicker in the past and to me, he looks heavier than he was a couple years ago. But he's sort of in that Laquon Treadwell area where there's a minimum requirement for speed and quickness and I just don't see that he meets that.
But there are a couple parts of this on KOC. The first is that he using the less talented back and the second is the scheme. Mattison's best chance is to build up a head of steam. KOC's scheme doesn't allow his backs to do that for the most part.
At the end of the day, a good runner is a good runner.
