With the 3-2 Vikings facing off against the 4-1 Packers, let's take a look at the matchups on the depth chart to see how strong the Packers' depth chart is:
I'll also add an injury report section so we know who won't be playing:
Out- Burnett, Thomas
Doubtful- Brooks, King
Questionable- Bakhtiari, Bulaga, House, Montgomery
-Thoughts-
The Packers really don't have any weaknesses on offense. Their tackles are banged up and their guards are just OK, so the best way to defeat them might be by derailing the run game and constantly pressuring Rodgers. They're going to mainly use Aaron Jones to run the ball, and the Vikes can't let him rip off 125 yards like the Cowboys just allowed.
On defense, the Packers use several combinations of CBs and three safeties. With Burnett out, they'll use Clinton-Dix, Brice, and Jones for a large portion of their plays. Their top 3 corners make up the only legitimate weakness on this team. Even though the Vikings are missing Diggs, they need Thielen to have another huge game against them (had a 200+ yard game against them last time).
The Vikings' main problem for the O-line will be handling Mike Daniels. They didn't handle Akiem Hicks (a very similar player to Daniels) very well last week, so they need to figure out how to contain them and get the run game going without him wrecking everything. It will be incredibly important for the Vikings to maintain long drives on offense in order to keep the ball away from Rodgers. That's the only way I can see them winning this one.
One other note - the Packers absolutely love rostering UDFAs on their team. They have 6 undrafted free agents on their team right now! They seem to prefer developing these guys instead of trying recycling veterans like most GMs do. It's debatable whether this method actually works, but it's fascinating to see a team mostly shun the free agent market and focus on their own guys.
Any thoughts?
