Our fan base is the ultimate “waiting for the other to drop” type group. Whether it’s the offense on a long drive or the defense creating a 3rd and long situation, we have convinced ourselves the inevitably, the offense will stall (FG missed) or we’ll turn the ball over and the defense will give up that first down either by penalty or poor coverage.
The Tampa Bay game had all that. All those waiting for the other shoe to drop moments happened all at once, drive after driver which only ratchet ups our insecurities of our individual fandom moving forward.
We want to believe. We want to have hope. But we are guarded. We shield ourselves from what we are convinced will be a negative result. That’s what years, decades of being in the fan base has taught us. We don’t win Super Bowls.
It’s a sad way to be a fan. To exist. But it is real whether we want to admit it or not.
So what do we do? I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’m trying to be positive, see the glass half full. It is not easy. In fact, easy is letting my emotions drift to the dark side without effort. Easy is thinking “heck, that’s not even water it hat glass, it’s poison.”
But I’ll keep trying to see the light because the alternative is misery. Why exist that way? I will fight those inner demons and look for ways that I can positively purple.
So here’s how we win Thursday night.
1) Philly’s secondary is banged up. This isn’t last year’s group. We have skilled receivers that match up well. If we can hammer them with some quick throws and move I small chunks, we win this game.
2) Flores can pressure and contain Hurts. It’s a lot to ask. We don’t need sacks. We just need him to be uncomfortable and feel like he has no escape. I expect better and more confusing blitzing packages. Keep the OLine guessing. A guessing OLine is a hesitant OLine.
3) More 11 personnel. I love CJ. I love Mattison. I do not need them to shift into receiver positions. Teams are not going to respect them in that position. It’s a waste. Use our strengths which is our top 3 wideouts and our tight ends. Make them defend all of that and hope the line give Kirk an ounce of time.
That’s why we will win. I hope.
