What could derail the season?

I know a lot of fans are excited about the receivers, being in year two of KO's offense as a whole, and B-Flo's aggressiveness, buuut, we're Vikings fans. We're cautious. We're full of anxiety. We worry! It's what we do!

So, what has you a lil worried?

- iOL?
- DL/pass rush?
- secondary?
- LBs?
- running back depth?
- injury bug catching up with us?
- ...kicking game?

What has you most worried for this season?

For me, a little of all of the above, but, in particular, injuries always concern me. We have a lot of question marks as is, if a couple key guys miss time, it could get scary real quick. Not sure we have the depth to stay afloat. Watching Quarterback recently, uh yeah, I'm terrified to lose Kirk. Also, considering Danchat jinxed us the other day regarding injuries (don't think I didn’t see that lol), I'm a lil extra nervy that it might start feeling like 2020 or 2021 again. I hope I'm wrong, because I want to be excited about this team, especially a lot of the young guys.

My biggest concern for this season is the DL, and more specifically stopping the run actually. I'm pretty worried we're susceptible to getting pushed around up front and the thought of getting TOP'd to death most games is positively frightening to me right now, Danielle Hunter not withstanding.

Hundred percent agree. We need to get some IDL help.

Not a great sign for Chandler…

Definitely concerning, especially because so many have convinced themselves everything will be juuuuust fine. I'm not so sure. Running through an open hole is one thing, but one badly mixed up protection and Cousins goes splat. These guys absolutely need to be prepared.

Mattison is okay. Maybe good. Definitely nothing better than that. But how does he hold up with the wear and tear of being RB1? No one knows. Heck, dude is already gimpy! With nothing but question marks behind him, it's a little worrisome.

Lack of a legitimate running game. We are kidding ourselves if we think Cook is magically replaced by Mattison.

Cook had 1100 yards and 8 TDs last year. That boosted our offense way more than we think, and it's unlikely Mattison can replicate it.

Injuries are always a fear for every team. My biggest concern for this team would probably be our corners. Asides from Murphy, there isn't a single corner with legit play experience or injury issues (and Murphy isn't exactly free from those issues either). I think Flores's scheme can mask many deficiencies in the front 7, but if our corners don't improve from what we had last year then it may be another long season on defense.

I have the same positional group concerns as those previously mentioned...

...and I have an overall, general concern about how the 2023 season is perceived that might have a long-term impact. Meaning, if the 2023 season turns out like the 2020/2021 seasons (ie, pretty much a disappointment), then how does that bode for the long-term "competitive rebuild" plan that's still under construction? Will exiting players want to remain here and will free agents want to come here? We all want this organization to take that leap from playoff contender to Conference/Super Bowl contender and a slide backwards in 2023 could hamper the rebuilding effort to get us there.

There's no question that although the 2022 season did end in a disappointing fashion w/ the Wild Card loss at home after 13-wins, it was a turnaround for the organization from the downhill path we were on during the last half of the Zimmer era. The 2022 season felt somewhat like 2014/2015 at the beginning of the Zimmer era where the Vikings were turning the page from the Childress/Tice/Frazier days to a more respectable and contending team that ultimately culminated in an appearance in the 2017 NFC Championship...

It feels like the 2022 season was possibly the start of not only getting back to that level, but keeping us there instead of sliding off the 2017 cliff into the 2018 abyss...

...we need the 2023 season to keep building and climbing back to that level, and so the concern is that a poor/disappointing 2023 season leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth and the 37 players slated to become UFA come the 2024 offseason will want to go to another team that is more further along with their rebuilding that we are.

This is at best an above average roster on the whole. My biggest concern is they've used a decades worth of luck last season, a return to average luck will result in an average record at best.

That said, I'm not concerned, the Vikings are my hobby, not my life.

RB room, and it's not close for me.

Every other position group, I can see a very realistic way that they could be pretty good; even if some of them also have clear downside risks as well. The best I can get to with RBs is that maybe the rest of the offense and blocking around them will be good enough that they're not a liability.
