All your questions are finally answered.
Iowa Funkytown, not to be confused with Mexican Funkytown (don't google that btw unless you're short on nightmare fuel ) posted a couple of tweets over in the schedule topic that got me thinking. I hate these drive-by factoids that are fine by themselves, but sometimes leave me asking more questions.
The obvious question being, how important is rest advantage anyway? I mean it seems important. Like duh right? Well it also seems like a good idea to wear white uniforms at home on a hot sunny day, but oddly enough, teams lose at a higher rate when they do, but they keep doing it anyway. So maybe the team with more rest loses at a higher rate too? I mean you'd probably still want the extra rest, but it's still fun to find out anyway.
First a quick chart of every teams rest advantage this year (in hours). Some games are still TBD, so this is as accurate as it gets at this point. I think I calculated all Saturday TBD games as Sunday at noon.
The rest advantage of every team 2002-2023, because why not go overboard:
Was anyone else expecting the Pukers and Cowpies to have the advantage most years? Hello Kitty Kats! And we find yet another category where the Vikings are mediocre. 2023 and 2009 do look like they have the widest spectrum.
But Mr. Sharp claimed the 95 games of rest advantage in 2023 is the most in history, and maybe it is based on his complex criteria, but I'm not seeing it according to this chart, which is based strictly on days of rest advantage. 2022 looks like the most, and 2023 looks like any other year in the past decade xD.
And we finally get to the real question, does rest advantage matter anyway? Unlike wearing white uniforms at home on a hot sunny day, it appears the extra rest does in fact give you an advantage.
Rest advantage in all regular season games (2002-2023):
The bigger crime however, is making a team go on the road with a rest disadvantage.
2023 Vikings week by week:
Man what a ripoff, can't even get a rest advantage after a bye lol. We share a bye with the Raiders, but we'll be coming off MNF. No wait, that's the first MNF game eligible for flexing. There's no way they keep that game on MNF xD. The 6-6 Vikings vs the 3-9 Bears? No way!
Whelp now that my eyes feel like Mexican Funkytown (seriously don't google that), it's time to go soak them in a soothing bath of bleach or battery acid for awhile.
