O'Connell runs a ton of medium range option route plays. This helps JJ because he can make a post-snap read of how the defender is playing him and who else the Defense has in his area and decide which way to break open.
But it also means Kirk has to wait a tick longer to see which way JJ is breaking. Which leads to more hits. Especially when Defenses didn't have to worry about a good running game giving gravitas to a Play Action Fake.
No running attack. Throw it a zillion times a game. Long-developing option routes. None of this sets up an IOL to be successful. Do I think Cleveland and Brabham and Ingram are actually good? Nope. I think they are average at best. But Kevin sure didn't put them in a favorable position to succeed last year. I bet that changes this year.
