Some sports fans in my office participate in an annual NFL Draft Predictor Pool where each individual predicts not only selects the players drafted in Round 1, but also what pick they will be selected at. Scoring is calculated using a multi-tiered system based on accuracy:
Let's say Alabama DE Will Anderson is selected 5th overall;
- 4 pts if you predict Anderson is selected 5th
- 3 pts if you predict 1 selection off in either direction (if Anderson is drafted 4th or 6th)
- 2 pts if you predict 2-3 selections off in either direction (if Anderson is drafted 2nd, 3rd, 7th or 8th)
- 1 pt if player is not within 3 picks, but is selected in 1st Rd (if Anderson is drafted 1st overall or anywhere from 9th thru 31st pick)
- 0 pts if Anderson is not selected in Round 1
When I saw Danchat's and idavike's Round 1 Mock prediction threads in here, I thought that it might be fun to run a little Purple Pain "pool" similar to the the Pick 6 contest to see who the most accurate Round 1 Mock Drafter is in the forums. I know Dan tries to predict the correct # of players at each draft slot each year, but this multi-tiered scoring system gives players some credit for being close.
Basically, you would just fill out the below 1 thru 31 Round 1 draft slots with the players you believe will be selected in those slots and I'll put them in a prepared spreadsheet that already contains all the formulas needed to do the scoring. Of course there will be Round 1 trades, but you're not predicting which team will select a particular player at any specific spot, so it doesn't matter if Will Anderson is selected 5th overall by Seattle, Arizona or anyone else - only the prediction that he's selected 5th overall.
Just curious if anyone is interested. I don't have any prizes, but if there is enough interest and participation, perhaps some of our "corporate" sponsors might provide a worthwhile prize for the top finisher(s).
If interested, reply in this thread with your Round 1 predictions no later than 1PM ET, 12PM CT on Thursday, April 27th.
