Last year, knowledgeable people were questioning how much Darrisaw would improve. Fortunately, he improved a lot and is now recognized as on his way to being an elite Left Tackle. If we only look at how much average Left Tackles improve, we miss what is possible for our particular player.
Similarly, Bradbury stunk for three seasons. Then with a new offense and a new line coach, he improved despite having a rookie RG who had a lot to learn about NFL defenses and NFL tackles.
Can Ingram improve? Can he become an average or better Right Guard? I don't have the OL expertise to know, but the Vikings should have multiple people with this expertise. If it is possible, Ingram will be given this opportunity. Is Ingram stronger than as a rookie? Has he improved his agility? Has he learned more about NFL defenses and players? If he is the right guy, he has. If he does not develop better pass protection skills, then he will be replaced by someone else. Maybe a healthy Chris Reed as a stopgap. Maybe Blake Brandel. Maybe someone else.
We know the Vikings are constrained by the Salary Cap, and I don't know what Risner would sign for. He may not be affordable. The Vikings do have Brandel, and today, he is better than Ingram at pass protection. So they are not stuck if Ingram is terrible or gets injured.
I expect Ingram to improve. Will it be enough? I hope so, and I really don't know. Most people on this board don't know either. We can claim to know, but we don't know. Past performances inform future performances, and guys do improve.
We can cite evidence why he will or won't improve, and that is what this board is about. We will find out soon how much, if any, he has improved.
