Talking Points
Attention Kwesi, Kevin & Vikes management, feel free to take notes
I have been listening to the talking heads podcasts and most seem to think that WR2 or cornerback, DL are the most important position for the draft or for a F/A upgrade.
Absolutely wrong, both our interior G's were and are the weakest links on the team right now especially after all the current additions. I think Ezra is playing out of position he has a tackle frame which is much different than the guard frame in which a solid anchor is needed for the position. He is terrible in pass protection, and is under average as a guard in general. He should be traded to a team that needs a L or R tackle for a draft pick in 2022, we should upgrade that position as it is the biggest position of need. That would help our run game by opening occasional holes in the left side of the line for the RB's instead of hitting walls at the line of scrimmage or d lineman hitting our RB's in backfield before they had a chance to gain a yard. This would help our run game 100% more that a 2nd string run blocking TE and would also help in the passing game, allowing more time for the QB to throw and find a WR. Ezra was below average in both areas . Overall our 2 G's were rated among the lowest in the league. I would give the rookie Ingram another year as he was above average in the run game but needs improvement in the pass protection as he is below average. I would have an open competition for the RG position, and bring in a veteran or a draft pick to compete for and win the RG job though. I would not automatically pencil Ingram in for the starting job.
2) Next position to upgrade would be a dominate run stuffing DT, that was lacking last year and is needed. Our interior run defense was terrible. This would help big time in the run game.
3) 3/4 linebacker would be next, need a fast dominate LB, this would be then next position needed in importance.
4)WR 2 last position needed. This is contrary to the talking head podcasts, but we were good last year with an ineffective Theilin, we have enough depth on the roster to get buy with if we had to and would not be much of a drop off from Theilin , but an upgrade is needed and it would make our offense much better but is the least important of the 4 right now.
I would trade Cook and Ezra for 2022 draft picks, and restructure O'Neill, with the savings in cap I would sign the best F/A G available and the best available upgrade at 3/4 LB with the cap savings.
I would retain Hunter & Zarious, I would draft these positions DT, WR2, CB, L, RB C or G
Feel free to opine but remember to keep it pithy!
