Vikes sign DL Dean Lowry

Vikings signing former Packers that never worked out besides Longwell and Favre for a year is getting really old

I have no problem building long term on offense and filling in the defense with rentals. That recipe has been successful in the NFL many times.

I don't like this move. Lowry has been a middling player for years now, and was starting to get phased out of the lineup by the end of the year (plus he got hurt). He appeared in 15 games, yet had a paltry 0.5 sacks and 1 TFL, and there's no underlying stats saying he's better like Davenport. He's also 29, so not a fit for the youth movement that's going on.

He makes sense as a replacement for Jonathan Bullard and/or James Lynch in the 3-4 DE role. They may opt to play him on 1st & 2nd downs like the Packers did, but the problem is that he hasn't posted a 62+ PFF run stop grade since 2018. I am hoping there are low guarantees in the deal so it can effectively be a 1 year deal.

With several other players on the market signing discounts, I have to say I'm disappointed by a few of the moves that the Vikings have made so far. Handing roles to middling players like Lowry, Hicks, Bradbury, and others doesn't make sense to make for either winning now or competing in the 2024 and on window.

Yes, that's why I asked for the breakdown.  Many two year deals are essentially cheap one year deals with what amounts to an "option" year for the team.
