No, trading Hunter (pre or during draft) adds an additional $19M dead cap.
The $5.7M number is how much larger the dead cap hit is than the cap savings from trading him.
Hunter is on an HOF career trajectory and proved he could stay healthy. At 28, he's certainly in line for a reasonable extension as long as he's not asking all world money. He was even productive in the Donatell system, so my gut feel is that he's probably getting an extension once this is over. He certainly deserves one as he's been vastly underpaid for his performance here. They cannot really do anything until after the draft given the current cap situation, and this stuff is typically handled after that anyway.
I would also note that this issue has been VERY quiet. Him not showing up for voluntary workouts isn't that much of a surprise, as an injury kills any leverage he would have, but I do think something gets done quickly, and here's why. There was much more noise about this a couple years ago when he got his 20M bonus... so I have to think some conversations have been had and at the very least, Kwesi has an idea as to how much Danielle is looking for. But, they're going to have to do something to free up cap space to sign their draft class... so at the very least Cook will have to be dealt with. I suspect Z, given the situation, is also a domino that may fall during the draft. Both of those change the cap situation and suddenly allow us to either trade Hunter or extend him depending on the plan. Given how weak the defense is, I have to think an extension is in the works. I suspect Flores will do a much better job utilizing Hunter than Donatell did.
