True, but until the Vikings have a plan after Kirk, why not ask for an extension?
This whole balancing act of the competitive rebuild - and keeping JJ happy - requires a reliable quarterback.
Secondly, keeping JJ happy is a premise that fans seem to buy in to but doesn't exist in a professional locker room. You play as a team and with the huggy bear culture that developed last year I'm sure all is good.
And who's to say a new QB won't be better than the old one?
I don't see how we avoid another extension at this point.
The following moves take the Vikings to $25.5M over the cap:
Cut Dalvin Cook, Eric Kendricks, Jordan Hicks, CJ Ham, Ross Blacklock.
Cut Adam Thielen (with a June 1 designation)
Restructure Brian O'Neill.
I haven't touched Kirks contract or Harrison Smith, although a reworking of Harrys deal is a given.
Also I don't agree that a QBOTF is off the cards this draft. Anthony Richardson is a possibility if he falls (according to Albert Breer) and a guy I like is Jake Haener (Fresno State) who did really well at the Senior Bowl.
