Worth the watch. Normally, I just watch the first several minutes to get the gist, but I watched the full 33 minutes this time. I couldn't turn it off!
My thoughts:
- Great hire! He was my guy the whole time, but I feel even better about it now. He seems like a great leader, teacher, and person.
- He's more mild-mannered than I expected. I see why he, KO, and KAM fit together - vision and personality.
- He says he's aggressive by nature, and that won't change. Thank goodness!
- He looks for guys who are smart, tough, physical, team-first, and those who are willing to do the dirty work. Versatile - he wants guys who can play different positions.
- They're in the early stages of evaluating the roster, but he thinks the seeds are already planted in Minnesota as far as culture and team-first. It's important that players love each other and understand it takes all 53.
- He'll run a 3-4, but he'll make adjustments for opponents. (Pssst. What's this "adjustment" you speak of? lol)
- He and his wife are both teachers. He mentioned his wife teaching him about IEPs (individualized educational plan), and how he uses that approach with his players.
- It was Minnesota or bust for his boys. He said there was a lot of griddying going on in his house when he officially took the job. lol.
- Said he knew right away that Minnesota was the spot, even with other opportunities still on the table. He's very excited to grow personally and professionally.
- I could have throat-punched the guys asking about the lawsuit and him moving on as soon as next year, but he handled those questions really well.
- Overall, great-freaking-hire. A lot to love here. I'd by lying if I said this hire doesn't get me A LOT more excited for next season. I just hope we can hold onto him for two or three years to really build the defense the way Zimmer did. Establish that group of core guys and build around it. I wish he had a little more to work with, but we gotta pray our 2022 rookies come back healthy and ready. Younger, faster, and more aggressive is music to my ears.
