Day 3 Practice Reports (2/2/23 - Groundhog Day):
Notes:
- Ohio St OT Dawand Jones missed practice again. Also absent was Illinois DB Jartavius Martin and Miami (FL) CB Tyrique Stevenson, as well as BYU WR Puka Nacua, Houston WR Tank Dell, TCU WR Derius Davis, Tulane LB Dorian Williams and TCU LB Dee Winters.
- It's clear that none of the QB's in Mobile this year really did anything to elevate their draft stock. Some reports have TCU's Max Duggan looking the best and others have Fresno St's Jake Haener as the best of the bunch, but it seems that none of them elevated themselves to Day 2, which to me is disappointing as I was hoping BYU's Jaren Hall or Houston's Clayton Tune would help themselves a little bit. It's really looking like there are 4 Day 1 QB's (Young, Stroud, Levis, Richardson), and 1-2 Day 2 QB's (McKee and possibly Hooker, if someone takes a shot) and then whatever order you want to put the rest on Day 3. After a very stacked QB class to start the 2022 College Season, to see this is where we ended up is pretty disappointing, but I guess the consolation is that the 2024 Draft Class should be that much better, since the majority of Day 2 prospects decided to return to school (ie, take NIL money) for one more year.
- It's also clear that the 2023 Cornerback class is extremely deep and is arguably the deepest position group in this Draft. Typically the All-Star games are setup to spotlight WR's in 1-v-1 drills where CB's normally can't hang with any WR who's "twitchy" or has speed, but that doesn't seem to be the case this year as many CB's are looking good in all the drills. Most of the CB's are playing well and it's probably easier to list the one's that aren't vs the one's that are.
