The Vikings have been trying to draft to fill holes for a decade, and they pass over better players to do it. It is illogical and unsustainable.

So you noticed how bad the defense was, but not how 3 of the 4 remaining teams have QB's who are still on rookie deals, and the other has Pat freaking Mahomes? You might be biased, or have defective pattern recognition skills.

Look champ, I'll explain this slow enough so maybe you can understand it. You only pay a QB as much money as Kirk is making if he can overcome the deficiencies his cap hit creates for the rest of the roster. A Bert Farv type. If you need an elite defense to drag Kirks ass into the 2nd round, then you're paying Kirk too much money. It's not too difficult to figure out. You can't pay a non elite QB top money and expect the team to assemble a Super Bowl caliber roster around him too. Hey what if we turn the salary cap setting off and we sign nothing but future HoF players in free agency? Maybe then Kirk Cousins can win a Super Bowl? Oh wait, this isn't Madden.

The dude couldn't beat 4th rounder Cam Bynum out for the starting spot before he got injured. If your first round pick can't do that, I don't know what to tell ya. Combine that with the fact that none of our other defensive rookies could get on the field either, despite the defense being complete ass, and the one OL that was on the field, shouldn't have been, the signs aren't exactly pointing toward "wow Kwesi's first draft class sure was amazing". But hey, at least the Packers and Lions got some exciting new weapons that are going to love playing the 2 DB's we took over them who can't get on the field.

IMO, GMs who love to trade down are convinced that they can get more prospects with lower picks because they are smarter than the other GMs in the league who they are trading with. Spielman thought he could get players in rounds 6 and 7 who were as good as those picked with the 4th and 5th rounders he traded away. KAM thought 2 2nd-rounders (#32 overall is essentially that) would be better than the 12th overall pick.

I'm sure Kwesi is a very smart man. Speilman too. But when you are in a highly-desired job that is only held by 32 men in the world, you should probably expect they are all very smart - and dangerous to think you are the smartest, especially in your first year on the job.



Fascinating. But drafting BPA means a GM can't write out a detailed plan, pre-draft, that includes how they will acquire a specific number of draft choices to fill the number of roster spots with open needs. BPA means being flexible on draft day, maybe jumping on a player that slides to you luckily, even if he wasn't part of your carefully-designed draft plan.

They were 8th in points for and 7th in yards that is top 10 so why are you lying that is a top 10 offense I think PFF had them as top 5 by their measurements.

Kirk's 36 million is completely reasonable for a Pro Bowl (top 6) NFL QB. The Rams paid more for their QBs last year and won the SB Stafford was very Kirk like old less mobile then Kirk and the Rams still managed to build a team around a QB position being paid out more than Kirk. Ditto KC this year. You are paying for Pro Bowl QB who lead the greatest comeback in NFL History (no ST or Def TDs he had to have drives of 50+ 60+ and 2 70+ drives and a 2 Point PAT a min-TD that is like 6 TDs. Record for most 1 score wins, tied record with Stafford for most comebacks in a season 8, he took the most hits of any QB in the NFL since they started keep the stat. He played with no #2 WR and terrible C and Guards and no running game - and with no help from shaky ST and a bottom 2/3 NFL Defense. If any QB not named Kirk had done this he would be MVP. Kirk had one of the greatest seasons this year any QB has ever had in the NFL.

Career wise Kirk is #8 QB of ALL TIME and #9 Clutch 4th Quarter QB of ALL TIME. 36 million is cheap for this kind of a QB...

And as proved by LA RAMS and KC this year QB salary is not a detriment to winning what is a detriment is terrible drafting...

A team can win a SB with a QB making as much as Kirk as long as they draft okay not even great just don't be trash at drafting... as for signing FAs there is enough money for that too...

Now there is a money problem on the team and it is not paying the #8 QB of all time and top 6 QB this year big money it is paying big money to a slow washed Safety (Safety is not a prime money position) to a RB (RBs are not worth what Cook gets) to a #3 WR Theilen and to a slow washed Kendricks/Hicks and they might be overpaying O Neill too.

The reason this team did anything this year is Kirk we saw JJ can be shut down and KOC can make some terrible playcalls.

Just imagine we have the same exact offence a top 10 offence this year BUT suppose we have an average defence not a top 10 just say 16th how many more games do we win - do we get the 1 seed - are we playing in a SB --- imagine a 10th ranked defence and a top 10 offense.

I stick to the most basic stats that have judged offenses and defenses for years not new nitpicky stats. For decades up to today you judge offenses and defenses by 2 measures points per game and yards per game ... points allowed and yards allowed ...
