Let's use a better analogy. If you have a 125 dollars you could spend at one store, would you trade that $125 to someone for two 50 dollar bills you could spend at two stores?
OK, forgive me I'm old so this may be a weird take, but I would take this trade of gift cards depending on the stores. If the $125 was at Walmart, I would gladly trade that card for 2x $50 gift cards. I could find more use for a gift card at Cabela's/Bass Pro Shop and maybe the other is at a decent steakhouse. Sure, I lose the full value of the first card but the other two would be more satisfying in terms of what I need (unless you're a vegan).
For the Vikings, they have a lot of holes still on the roster with very little cap space. The one pick gets you the 4th-6th best CB or DL, and then they have to pay $15+M/4-year rookie deal. A team would be reaching for a LB at pick 23, and they don't need to draft any OL or TE's that early. I'm with others here in thinking the top half of the WR class is overhyped and there is just better value for a true #2 WR on day 2. Thus, trading down this year makes sense.
For the record, I'm usually a BPA type of guy but the 2023 draft is different for the Vikings. I think in large part it's because of the combination of a new building regime but still has structures in place of the old one. Kind of like Soldier Field, you can flip the field but it's still a crappy stadium.
