Here's how I think the targets will break down without Thielen:

Target1: JJ
Target2: Hockenson
Target3: KJ/Nailor/Draft Pick/Reagor (or a sleeper like Bisi
Target4: RB1/TE2/RB2

The only guys that can get deep in the Target3 group are Nailor and Reagor. Obviously nobody in Target4 would be a deep threat.

All the talk about a big bodied Possession WR on the Outside that Minnesota hasn't had in ages. But that type of WR isn't going to threaten Teams deep if they pay too much attention to JJ. And Hock is that big bodied/big catch radius intermediate threat anyway.

Get a burner that can take the top off. That's why you don't give up on Reagor so soon. There's literally no harm in giving him a full offseason with WR Whisperer Kennan McCardell to see if there's something there. Have him compete with Nailor and a Draft Pick. If he's behind both he's the Punt Returner or even gone if the Draft Pick can also return punts, which would be ideal.

Is McCardell still here? I read somewhere he was interviewing with NE for the OC position I believe.

I think we can all agree that

Young, Carter, Anderson, Levis, Stroud, Tyree Wilson are locks to go prior to #23 and I think if any were to drop it's a no brainer, but they won't.

The next tier down is probably Witherspoon, Quentin Johnson, Gonzalez, Richardson, Brian Branch, Van Ness, Paris Johnson, Calijah Kancey, Skoronski, Bryan Breese, Jordan Addison, Broderick Jones, Myles Murphy, Mayer. I debated putting Murphy and Witherspoon in the first tier because I think there is a really low chance of them reaching us.

Then the third tier for me is Smith-Njigba, Porter, Flowers, Cam Smith, O'Cyrus Torrence, Nolan Smith, Dalton Kincaid, Joey Porter, Bijan Robinson. I've seen several others in this range

Not really anyone I'm in a full sprint on from that third tier.

What has Williams done? Play punt gunner in November? You guys shame Cine but praise Williams who has done nothing yet. Well see how this plays out before we judge.

I know Tippmann will test well at the Combine next week (he was listed 28th on Feldman's 2022 "Freak's List", which is a strong indication that he's very athletic), but outside of that, it's somewhat a stretch to have Tippmann as OC1 in the 2023 Draft over Minnesota's John Michael Schmitz, who graded out nearly 14 pts better in 2022 via PFF, has better tape, a better anchor in pass protection and confirmed that at the Senior Bowl last month vs DT's across the College landscape and not just BIG10 West opponents.

Tippmann is the top athletic OC prospect in the 2023 Draft class and may have the higher ceiling down the road, but it's to argue that Schmitz has the higher floor and is basically plug-n-play in Year 1.

Also, since Tippmann has more athleticism and can pull "better", he's probably more of a fit for teams running primarily outside zone blocking, something we did run during the latter part of the Zimmer/Spielman era but something we went away from in 2022 under O'Connell - we ran more inside zone. And since the Vikings in 2022 also passed the ball 60% of the time, I do think Schmitz's ability to anchor right away will be more of a fit for the Vikings.

If the Vikings wanted to invest a early Rd Draft pick on an IOL prospect, I would go Schmitz over Tippman at this point before free agency. If the Vikings pick up a veteran OC via free agency who can hold the fort down in 2023 while Tippman develops a little bit more, then Tippman might hold a bit more value.

Breese and Murphy if they somehow fell are 'run to the podium' guys. Joey Porter Jr could be depending on how he tests and what Kwesi and Flores do in FA.

I'm a firm No on Smith-Njigba. A Slot-only WR lacking elite speed. Hard pass. I'm also a No on Kancey. He's strictly an undersized 3T and not a scheme fit.

Some sleepers are Deion White (a raw freak of an Edge but also 24 already), Drew Sanders (super high floor ILB that starter off as an Edge at Bama) and one you listed in Nolan Smith. I think Smith has a very high floor and a sneaky high ceiling.

Its so unlikely we pick a center at number one, but if they could get the Gopher...

The Bradbury pick was a muff. I remember back when the brass fell in love with him. They raved about the tape and what he did to good college tackles. But Bradbury was undersized,and NFL tackles handed him his jock. I dont expect that not to continue and there is no way he is worth north of 8 million a year. Hell, one can make the arguement that he is one of the reasons this team is stuck where they are. I want a big center thats physical who has a great anchor. Thats is not Bradbury, injury or not.

I agree with you on Porter, the combine makes or breaks his draft position. I take a hard pass on some of the WR I looked at too, but there is a super speedy little guy (cant remember his name) who could be a steal in the 4th.

Dont be so hard on Kancey, if you could pair him with a big body like Jerry Ball or Jordan Davis, this guy has a motor that puts out flumes of exhaust, a little like Aaron Donald. His arm length and size are holding him back, and thats why Donaldk fell. Aaron Donald was one of the fastest tackles in the NFL since our own Alan Page. This Kancy is quick like that too.

Agree on all of this. I'm starting to like Porter more and more at 23 if he's there. Seems a great fit as a press man in Flores scheme. But there's a lot of depth at CB.

But I do like the depth of this draft and we need more picks. There are a ton of guys in the 2-4 range I'd have a hard time choosing between. But I'd like to watch more tape and see the combine.

No way I'm picking a receiver at 23 if I can get guys like Wicks, Perry, Iosivas, or Mingo and other in the 3rd or later.

Carter is also very tempting. And Sanders at LB is another great fit for Flores with his rushing ability.

Gonna throw out my first 3rd day sleeper who might even end up a UDFA as a Ham replacement. Tavion Thomas.
