Extend Cousins or ... ?

I am disappointed with how the front office (KAM) is handling the Cousins situation.

Cousins is not the problem. Yet the front office acts like they have a new guy in two years so screw Kirk. You do that type of stuff and whiff and KAM is a goner. Cousins won 13 games last year and we all know the offense was not the problem.

There are other things you get with Kirk too, that are hard to find.
1) Most quarterbacks want long term contracts, Kirk doesnt. In fact he is one of the few quarterbacks who played for years on one year deals.
2) He wants to be here. A lot of the other ones wouldnt.
3) Terrific community guy and he does wear the purple with a heart to win. He doesnt complain
4 There are NO quarterbacks available to the Vikings that are better for the next 3 years. This years rookies, while they have potential are still long shots to be better than Kirk. I think Stroud could be Kirks equal in time, but not better. He has the same mobility problems as Kirk.

There looks to be only two players on this roster that are safe, Darrisaw and Jefferson. Thats not the way to develop team chemistry and when you do that players start thinking about only themselves. I would rather Kam left than Cousins, once you blow culture on a team things can get real dicey.


Also the team could have managed to keep Kirk until he retires because Kirk is reasonable. Have some kid learn in his footsteps, Kirk is a good guy like that.

If KAM ever sends three number ones away for a quarterback, I will want to quit the Vikings for around the 50th time in my life. I never do tho.

Did we not pay Hunter because the team didn’t meet expectations? How about Peterson?

If we draft a rookie , dump Kirk and the team doesn’t become an instant contender are you going to argue that we shouldn’t pay Jefferson if the team isn’t of the caliber you are setting for the team in this situation?

Name every QB you believe would be giving us the results you demand for Kirk. How long is your list?

You seem to ignore my point about his individual play being above average and his pay being top 5. That’s the key aspect that people both in and outside the fan base can see and have pointed out. I don’t think we should overpay Hunter to be honest and there might be a reason we haven’t extended him so far.

The point about the team is that people wouldn’t care as much if we had success because overpaying for him would have been worth it then. That we haven’t been winning makes overpaying him more of an issue because why do it for mediocrity? In terms of the offense the reason it matters is QB is the most influential player on the field by far. Either way the individual aspect is still there with him though. It’s just a bigger issue many will talk about when you are overpaying and not winning.

How many QBs play to the level of their contract? Probably just the elite ones and the low level pay ones (mostly rookies but occasionally a keenum type like we had). That’s the entire point behind the mentality of drafting a qb, you aim for an elite one but at the very least you aren’t spending much so it allows you to build up the roster. The only time you should be overpaying for the above average group of QBs is if you are making an all in push. That’s why our moves to extend Kirk haven’t made much sense and his pay has been talked about by many.

Nothing.  People would still be b*tching.  They would still be waxing poetically about Keenum and his 22 TD's and how great of a QB he is.  And he's starting where this year? 

Lots?  Name them.

There are a few that Kirk is arguably better than, but then again, there are a few that Carson Wentz is arguably better than, and no one is trying to win a SB with him at QB anymore.
