Lol as another poster pointed out, it sure hurt us in Buffalo. I guess what you consider uneducated takes are what actually lead to wins. That makes sense given your stances when it comes to Cousins and even JJ in this thread.
Osborn was open enough to make the throw and would have been the most likely option to get the first down. Even throwing it to a contested JJ we have seen work before as mentioned. Instead of making a tougher and possibly contested throw Kirk checked it down and outside of the defenders almost everyone criticized the choice (both in and outside the fan base). You can think it’s everyone else being irrational but the reality is that’s how the Kirk defenders look to everyone else. Most people expect good QBs to make those tough throws in big moments, they don’t complain about not checking it down to someone covered almost ever from what I have seen (certainly won’t find me doing so, feel free to quote otherwise).
What I was saying about those statistics and our offense is true. You can ignore most of that to say I’m being irrational or have uneducated takes but it doesn’t change that reality. It’s just you being defensive of Kirk but not having a rational response or reason to dispute anything I pointed out.
Feel free to point out on here where there was an option to throw that shows the coaches and the team around him did their job, created an opportunity for him to make a throw and he missed. And once you do I’ll be sure to pass it along to a HOF QB who doesn’t see it. I’m sure he will appreciate your insight 😁
I just did lol and Kurt even says it’s the only other option to get the first down after JJ was doubled. That throw over the middle is where he should have taken the chance even if it wasn’t the best route it was our best option for a first down. There were plenty of others in media covering this that were critical of that decision who played as well (likely why Kurt responded with his breakdown). I agree with Kurt about the play call not being great but it doesn’t change anything I was saying either.
Most people expect good quarterbacks to make the tough throws in big moments over taking a covered check down. Kirk didn’t in the biggest moment of our season after throwing behind KJ on third down allowing the defender to get his hand in there. Earlier in the season myself and others gave him his props when he did make the tough throws. He just didn’t do it in the playoffs unfortunately.
At the end of the day he just hasn’t lived up to his contracts/initial expectations. We saw what he could do with a top 10 defense and great weapons surrounding him those first couple years. We are now further behind on cap and have a worse roster defensively than when he got here and he’s one of the oldest starting QBs in the league. Hopefully we don’t waste any more time/$ on keeping this window (of mediocrity) open with him.
