The cap number for McNabb in 2012 was 0, not 7 million and AP, would likely not have been on the team if the Vikings were paying a QB top 2 money like the Vikings did his first 5 years here. The Vikings were only able to pay him what they did because they did not have a QB to pay QB money too.
Please don't attempt to change history:
In quarters 1 and 4 in 2022 Kirk threw for 20 TDs. Quarters 2 and 3 he threw 9 TDs. So no, he isn't the only QB to not be "completely consistent", no one ever claimed that. He was however throwing TDs in the 2nd and 3rd quarter at the same rate as Davis Mills though. Sorry, worse than Mills, since Mills threw his 9 TDs in 15 games versus Kirk's 17.
We had Brett the prior 2 seasons and AP on his rookie contract and the trophy case was still empty after that as well.
As to your juvenile statistical example of how many TDs Kirk threw in quarters 2 and 3 you have to do better than that. If it’s kirks fault show specific examples of where he had options to throw TDs and he either wasn’t accurate enough or chose not to. Did you ever consider scheme and play calling might have some type of impact on those numbers? Show me specifically why this was on Kirk and how the coaches developed plays that should have led to TDs, how WRs were open, how OL held their blacks perfectly and yet in spite of all that Kirk failed to do his part. I’ll wait.
As to the proclamation from Rick when Kirk was brought in. He also had his OC leave and was replaced by a guy who got fired after a year because he wasn’t good. Deflippo hasn’t exactly lit the world on fire since he left either so I’m not convinced that Kirk let him down as much as the vice versa.
Since then we have had a new OC every single year. The offense has changed every year with new terminology, new assignments, new play callers and somehow he has actually performed very consistently.
In his first season while the rest of the team around him declined including the offensive coaching Kirk contributed 8 more TDs than case and 5 more than the rest of the QB roster and he increased the completion percentage which are two factors the QB is responsible for. So yeah he did do his part. If Case was able to produce at that level we very well might have been in the SB. We certainly wouldn’t have had a worse record in 2017 with Kirk than we did with Case.
He did make it to the nfc championship game though, like keenum the year prior to Kirk. That 09 team was one of the best/closest Vikings teams to not make the sb in my lifetime (98 being the other).
It’s always someone else’s fault with Kirk. JJ often would be wide open but not get thrown the ball in previous years at home games but people wonder why he would “disappear”. The qb has the most responsibility of anyone on the field with how they are used. It wasn’t all his fault but this team for years now with Kirk as qb has been inconsistent with long stretches of not moving the ball much.
You bash the oc yet prop up the stats Kirk put up that year. People need to start realizing volume stats need context. Kirk also threw the ball a lot more that year and the offense fell off in part due to it. The following season Kirk had one more td in one less game than keenum/Bradford combo and it was the best offense we had over that stretch in terms of where we ranked in points per drive. If you are a pass heavy team of course the qb might throw more tds but that doesn’t mean the offense is better off with that approach (especially with a qb like cousins as opposed to an elite qb). Kirk did his part to get his own stats but this offense fell off when that happened. He isn’t someone that is taking this team to another level with his play, last year was arguably his best season and we saw the same issues come up with him to end the playoff game (throw behind wr on 3rd then not throw to that receiver on 4th taking chance in favor of 2 yard check down). The year we had a good team still and he won his only playoff game he was an issue in that 49ers game to follow it up anyway (I have shared sage breaking down plays showing the open wrs that game so no excuses or blaming others). Kirk might get great stats with our set of weapons but he hasn’t really elevated the offense as expected when we paid him so much to come here.
