Name 3 QBs that have a winning record over 3 years where their defense gave up an average of 26.6 ppg. Oh wait, that's right. What the defense allows doesn't matter. The QB is responsible to outplay whatever the defense gives up during the game. I keep forgetting that only 1 player on the team is responsible for wins and losses.
Over the last 3 years only 3 teams have giving up more points than the Vikings. The Texan, the Lions and the Raiders. Between the 9 seasons of those teams there are only two winning seasons. One by the Raiders and one by Detroit. At least the Vikings have managed to pull two winning seasons out it.
Let's add one more thing. How many teams outscored the Vikings in the past 3 years. 4. The Packers, Tampa, Buffalo and the Chiefs.
I never said the defense wasn't bad the last 3 years and said already in this thread where the team is at isn't all Cousins fault. Your response isn't related to what I was saying at all it seems. In response to this I will point out though that part of the reason the defense is so poor is all of our best draft picks and our biggest contract all went to the offense (so it must be elite, right?). Despite that this team in 5 seasons with Kirk leading the way has ranked on average 13th best in the league in terms of points per drive. For reference we were 8th the year before he got here with Case Keenum as our QB. That is related to his own level of play over that span and not the defense. We have had great weapons surrounding him as well, offense was supposed to improve but it never really did much with him coming in.
He hasn't lived up to the expectations or his constant high contracts at all. He had a career before he got here that pointed to the same type of player we have seen as well, it shouldn't have been too surprising. He's an above average QB and at times can play top 10 but overall won't elevate a team to another level like some. At this point if we all know the defense is bad, he can't elevate an offense, his cap hits along with others over time have put us in a bad position to be adding much more... Why keep him? There really is no point unless you truly are content with mediocrity (which is why we likely do end up extending him). It's not all Cousins fault, he has been part of the issue by not playing up to his contract or elevating the offense though during his time here. It's not hard to see, especially this many years in.
Hasn’t lived up to expectations?
Who’s expectations?
I didn’t want to bring him here and didn’t expect him to last 3 years but he has exceeded anything I felt he would do and objectively the team has failed to build a team around him.
Fans are setting expectations for him that have never been set for any other QB we have had or what is expected of virtually every starter in the league.
