Extend Cousins or ... ?

So here is a bit of what I'm talking about when you talk PPG. You can't look at just that number. Just like you can't look at just the PPD for the QB. You have to take the defense into account. The two are interrelated when it comes down to the success of the QB and the team. Four QB's. Wins based on defensive PPG. Notice how many more of the lower-scoring games Montana had. You can't just look at PPG, you have to look at how many of those games the QB had. This has always been my point. For some reason, some of you seem to want to dismiss this as a valid point. But the fact is, every good QB who has won multiple Super Bowls follows the same pattern as Montana. Except Eli Manning. Starr, Montana, Brady, Aikman, Bradshaw, all of them. You can't point to one of them that hasn't had a good defense over their career. And I'm not claiming Cousins is as good as Montana or any other QB, I'm saying that the difference in the QB's isn't as great as people want to make it out to be. Yes, some are better. But the wins and losses are not solely determined by the QB and his PPD or PPG. You have to take into account the defense he has. It matters to the overall win/loss of a QB during his career.


Notice that 43% of all of Cousins games are 26 ppg or more from the defense.  But that doesn't matter, right?  I guess it doesn't matter for Stafford either. Just another crappy QB.

Sure they are.  Only you don't see it.  Every time someone argues that Cousin's PPD or the number of games he won because the didn't score enough points is actively ignoring the fact that the other team scores as well. And the defense matters.   Look at the post.  In what post did anyone talking about Cousins PPD also mention the Defensive PPD?  Not one.  It's like Cousins PPD is the sole reason they lost. Hell one person even went so far to claim Keenum was better in 2017 because the Vikings were 8th in PPD that season. Right up until I pointed out that Cousins PPD this year was better than Keenum's in 2017.  That poster went suddenly silent.   People want to make any excuse in the world why Cousins isn't the answer.  In 2018 it started because he didn't win games in Washington.  Now that he's been winning it's Points Per Drive.  What will it be next year?    I don't know if he is or isn't. But what I do know is this. No QB wins sh*t without a good defense backing him up. Period.   If they did, Rodgers would have 7 rings by now. Because outside Mahomes, Who may be the next GOAT, Rodgers has been the best QB in the league for the lat 15 years.  And yes, I mean better than Brady.  Given the same defense, I'd take Rodgers over Brady any day of the week.  

It's a team game. And a QB is only as good as his defense allows him to be. The two are interconnected, and to dismiss that and blame the QB for not winning, for not being the answer because his PPD isn't high enough is just disingenuous.   So I'll ask this question.  What PPD will be high enough to satisfy the anti Cousins crowd?  I mean, if it's not high enough, then you have to have an answer to what it should be.    Remember, inf 2021 he was criticized for not being able to win close games. Funny how that this year when he did, they became frauds.  So there's the question.  I'd love to see some answers to it.

The second most annoying part of the Cousins arguments is that the defense of Cousins always boils down to blaming others for him failing versus sticking with what he is doing to help the team to succeed.

So, defensive ppd doesn't matter to winning or losing.  Only what the QB does. Got it.  I have addressed everything.  Keenum PPD in 2017 was lower than Cousins this year. Period. Now way around it.  And you haven't answered, at least I don't see it.  What ppd is good enough for Cousins not to be criticized  by you. Because we know being better that Keenum isn't it.  I'm assuming his 2.47 in 2020 and 2.33 in 2019 aren't good enough for you as well. 

Your only point is that Cousins PPD isn't good enough.  But it doesn't matter if his PPD is 3.2 if  the defense PPD is 3.4.   You would still be b*tching he didn't score enough points per drive.  That's the bottom line.  You want a QB that outscores the Defense no matter how bad the defense is.  Those guys don't exist.  Maybe in Madden.  Not in real life.
