As we celebrate those who served, and continue to serve, this Veteran's Day weekend, Week 11 offers up some big games with big postseason implications, capped-off by a primetime showdown in Austin between undefeated TCU and the Longhorns...
Saturday, 11/12 - Early Afternoon Games
#7 LSU @ Arkansas - Noon ET (ESPN)
The Tigers and HC Brian Kelley are now the leaders in the clubhouse in the SEC West after their big win over Alabama last weekend - and they get a relatively tough road game to celebrate. Arkansas has had an up-and-down year, but they definitely have the chops to hang with LSU and pull off an upset. LSU QB Jayden Daniels has had three great games in a row and I think he'll need to make it 4 if they want to survive in Fayeteville.
Purdue @ #22 Illinois - Noon ET (ESPN2)
A couple of weeks ago, this was going to be the defacto game to crown the BIG10 West Champion and a spot in the BIG10 Championship vs the Michigan/Ohio St winner. Then Week 10 happened and Illinois lost to Michigan St and Purdue lost to Iowa, and suddenly the rest of the BIG10 West Division was brought back into the fold if Illinois slips again. Purdue QB Aiden O'Connell had an awful game vs the Hawkeyes last weekend and he'll be looking to redeem himself and get a bigtime road win to boost his draft stock and Illinois will want to lean on their 2023 Draft RB prospect Chase Brown. It's a game of differing styles as the Boilermakers will want to keep it up-tempo while the Fighting Illinini will want to play ball-control. If anyone else in the Division wants a shot at the BIG10 Championship game (ie, the Golden Gophers), they need Illinois to lose.
Saturday, 11/12 - Late Afternoon Games
#9 Alabama @ #11 Ole Miss - 3:30PM ET (CBS)
It's technically still possible that the Crimson Tide could get to the SEC Championship game, and that path starts by winning at Oxford behind QB Bryce Young. The atmosphere is going to be against Saban yet again as the Rebels will look to be the 3rd home team to beat Alabama this season and Lane Kiffin will be throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Saban to do it. The Rebels are one of the best rushing teams in the nation, but few teams have success rushing straight into 'Bama's defense, so Kiffin will have to get creative. Bryce Young may need to pull this one out for the Tide or else Saban might as well starting thinking about the '23 season.
Louisville @#10 Clemson - 3:30PM ET (ESPN)
Not that long ago the Cardinals were on the verge of firing their HC Scott Satterfield after a season-opening loss to Syracuse and bad loss to Boston College (winner of only 2 games this season). But they've ripped off 4 wins in a row, including a massive upset over Wake Forest during Week 9 and they've turned their season around to the point where it's possible they could pull this off. Clemson are licking their wounds after the ugly loss at Notre Dame last week that pretty much knocked them out of the CFP and the 'Ville are playing aggressively right now with nothing to lose. I'd personally love nothing more than to see Dabo Sweeney go complete nuts on the sidelines if the Cardinals pull this one off - they are due against Clemson, too, after several close loses since Louisville joined the ACC. The Tigers would still be in 1st place in the ACC Atlantic with a loss since they don't have a Conference loss yet and everyone else has at least 2.
#22 UCF @ #17 Tulane - 3:30PM ET (ESPN2) - the "American Athletic Conference Game of the Year 1.0"
There's no better way to celebrate Veteran's Day Weekend than with a bigtime game in the American Athletic Conference. Cincinnati has dominated the AAC the past few years, but Tulane is the leading team for a New Year's Six bowl spot and this battle for 1st place in the AAC will go along way to determine who will ultimately get that spot. The Green Wave are lead by 2023 QB Draft prospect Michael Pratt, who is an under-the-radar type of prospect that could break out if Tulane can win this one in front of a national TV audience. UCF had a bumpy start but have found their offense, but this one is at Tulane who is playing one the biggest home games in their recent program history so they should be able to pull it off.
Saturday, 11/12 - Evening Games
#25 Washington @ #6 Oregon - 7PM ET (FOX)
After Week 1's disastrous whooping at the hands of the #1 Georgia Bulldogs, I wrote off Bo Nix and Oregon from doing anything this season, and I was definitely a bit too early to do that. Nix has crept into the Heisman discussion after consistently performing at a high level week-in and week-out this season and he gets a big home game vs a solid Washington team that loves to pass the ball and score behind 2023 Draft QB prospect Michael Penix, Jr. This one could be a very high-scoring affair with the last team with the ball winning.
#4 TCU @ #18 Texas - 7:30PM ET (ABC)
Thanks to Tennessee and Clemson losing during Week 10, the Horned Frogs jumped into the CFP Top 4 for the first time in program history and unfortunately for them, that stay in the CFP Top 4 could be short-lived as they travel to Austin to take on a Longhorn program with a bunch of momentum after winning in Manhattan last weekend over Kansas St. TCU has held off all challenges so far this season: Oklahoma, Kansas, Oklahoma St, Kansas St - they've run the BIG XII gauntlet unscathed, but I think that might be coming to an end. Texas has already had a massive home game vs a top opponent and nearly won when 'Bama came to town in Week 2, and Steve Sarkesian won't let his opportunity pass. Both of these teams could very well have a rematch in the BIGXII Championship game, too. It's entirely possible that if Oregon runs away from Washington and Texas beats TCU, the Ducks could fly-over #5 Tennessee into the #4 spot in the CFP rankings on Tuesday.
