I love having a good draft, but we just added a young player with a higher likelihood of being a blue-chip player than anyone we could obtain at pick +50 next spring. IMO, the trade just hangs on whether they are able to extend Hockenson beyond 2023.

I, one of those message board yahoos, have been unimpressed by Irv for a couple years myself; I think Spielman really overrated him. But I know damn well that I was just having my occasional purely-coincidental correct guess about this stuff. Kwesi is allowed to be wrong a few more times. He had a pile of things to correct here and he hoped TE might not be one of them.

To me, the bigger point is that he didn't waste even a full season to acknowledge he was wrong to count on Smith. Nothing has been more frustrating than running out a dud several years in a row.

Too many holes for coulda woulda shoulda. There are more holes than plugs to fill them via draft/free agency, and some holes on a roster have to be held together with duct tape. Same with any roster.

I believe comet is saying it was typically bad management from Spielman and Zimmer (but mostly Rick) to keep trotting out highly drafted underperformses year after year instead of admitting the kid isn't working out and moving on.

I’m more concerned that Kam didn’t know a running back would roll up on his ankle and put him for 10 months. GM should predict these injuries.

My concern: some players who spent offseason camps and full training camp with this coaching staff have been taking a long time to reach high performance. What's Taking So Long?

Is Hockenson going to be similarly slow integrating? If he is, and he looks unimpressive the rest of 2022, we're not going to enjoy the benefits of his skills this season. That's actually a double-whammy, because if he doesn't look good in KOC's offense this year, how could we extend him?

I actually think there are other reasons (age, skills that were overrated in 2021) why certain players have been a bit disappointing this year, and that "difficult to learn the system" is a minimal part of the problem, or an outright excuse. But Hockenson's speed to adapt will be a good test of that theory.

As a Lions fans, I can't lie and say I didn't see this coming. Heard rumors weeks before this happened that he didn't fit in with his former team's rebuild. And to be fair, any guy would be happy to leave a 1-6 team to go to a 6-1 team. Granted as someone from Michigan who lives in Minnesota, they are no where near the same type of places. Each has good things and bad things about them, but Hock being from IA he would feel more at home here.

But I want to let you know what you are getting from my perspective. You are getting a guy who has the ability to make a huge play. He can get open, but can also be stifled easily. He is a terrible blocker so don't expect him in that regards. I watch almost every Vikings game since my lovely wife is a huge fan, I can tell you Hock can be the most explosive TE that you have had in the last 20 years, but he will go games with little to no production. The Vikings already have a well established passing attack, so he just might be a complimentary piece that the Vikings need versus him being a real weapon the Lions needed him to be over the last 3 years since they lack receiving talent.
