I would like to hear some opinions on why the new schemes on both sides of the ball are taking so long for Players to learn.
We've seen excellent content about the miscommunication and hesitancy on Defense leading to so many wide open completions in the middle of the field.
Miscommunication on Offense was rife in the Miami game. Thielen and KJ aren't getting separation. Cook isn't getting any YAC. Cousins is slow going through his reads and often missing open guys.
I get it on Defense. Most of the Players have played most of their NFL snaps in 4-3. But Hicks is a 3-4 guy. And it isn't just his speed that is making him late.
On Offense I really don't get what the problem is. This is still the Mike Shanahan/Gary Kubial Offense. Just a modernized take by Kyle Shanahan/Sean McVay. This system didn't invent new route trees that Thielen and KJ have never run before. And it's not like it's the jet sweeps or bubble screens or rub routes or any other East/West stuff that the Kubiaks hardly ever used. If anything, O'Connell is running less of those concepts than I expected, but when he does they seem to be working pretty well provided Mundt catches the damn ball.
Is it terminology? Are guys being used differently than before? Why aren't they throwing deep? If the Line is truly better, and both ESPN and PFF analytics say they are, why is the IOL run blocking so bad? Is O'Connell just a bad playcaller until the 4th Quarter?
More than 1 thing can be true at the same time. Is it that certain guys have lost a step plus the new schemes plus a first time playcaller? All of the above plus more factors?
What are your thoughts?
