I’m surprised… maybe they believe Bridgewater is not likely to clear? Even though the story we have been getting indicates he should clear.

I’m also surprised they announced this on Wednesday.

Why tip your personnel decisions to the opposition defense so early in the week? You can tell Skylar without telling the world.

This whole thing seems very suspicious.

Almost like the NFL has stepped in and is playing a role in our personnel decisions.

Even though Teddy was never concussed. He went in protocol.

You can bet the NFL doesn’t want him playing the next week and getting injured. It would be Tua all over again and the exact same team in the spotlight.(PR nightmare)

If Teddy is cleared tmrw, he should be starting! Why not wait?

If Teddy/Tua aren’t cleared…. why not wait anyways? Keep Minny defense at a competitive disadvantage of not knowing who they will face all week.(It could have been any 1 of 3 quarterbacks)

From a Miami Dolphins standpoint. It makes no sense. From a league image standpoint it does though…

If Bridgewater is cleared and Skylar starts, that disproves this notion that there's no way McDaniel would start Skylar over Bridgewater while we're still in the division race. Would be great. Bridgewater is a known 50% win% commodity. Skylar we don't know. His decision making was too slow, and he wasn't familiar with the playbook in his first start, but you can't tell without further NFL experience whether he can quickly improve on those things or not. Play him more to find out.

But yeah 3-3 seems likely. Never know though. Lots of surprises in the NFL this year (how are the Giants 4-1 btw??).

I would assume he would rather have Skylar with a full week of practice than Teddy with just some practice but I don't know about that one.

Hopefully he believes Skylar is capable of a lot more than what we saw which was a tough situation for him to be in to be fair.

This is a Miami Dolphins rule that will stick with us until Tua and McDaniels are gone. And no im not calling for his firing, but the NFL and their spotters have put a target on us and we will be unfairly ruled against because of Tua’s consecutive injuries. That will be the cost of keeping Mcdaniels unfortunately. At some point, if they continue doing this to us, it will be too costly for us to keep him. We will see how the season ends.

I hate the Vikings as much, if not more, then I hate the Jets. I was really hoping Tua would be able to play. Hopefully the rest of the team is ready to go!

Anybody remember that weirdo Vikings fan that used to write cringey songs about every Vikings matchup? He or someone else posted one here once years ago, and it was an unintentional comic masterpiece. I'd love to track it down and see if he's still producing things.

I feel like if Teddy is active and does not start, there should be a 30 for 30 about the last month of this season.

I have so many questions that could not be answered in a few tweets or even an article.

You cant really give Bridgewater all the practice reps then have the NFL say he can't play. The only logical play for Dolphins is to announce Skylar and give him the reps. This whole thing is getting ridiculous. I predict more QB's will be getting thrown to the ground to try to get them out of games because of this.

Zappe looked like he knew exactly what was going on. It will be interesting to see if Skylar is as equally prepared after a full week of practice.

The Vikings aren't exactly a defensive monster. This is absolutely a winnable game even with Skylar at QB. The single biggest thing will be getting pressure on Cousins. You cannot let him sit back there and wait for him to hit Jefferson. Put him under pressure and make him make mistakes.

I don't think all is lost yet for this game. Skylar just needs to trust himself more and let go of the ball. I watched someone break down the All-22 and there were tons of plays were we had guys running free and Skylar pumped the ball a couple of times instead of just letting it go. If you watch the strip sack that put the game away he actually has guys wide open but for some reason doesn't throw the ball. Hopefully with a full week of practice he will start to see these opportunities and take advantage of them.

We won't win a game until Tua gets back.

Our offense was built around Tua...not long bombs or lasers, but accurate passes and timing. And a lefty.

McDaniel was the coach everyone loved...until Tua went down at Buffalo. Then, he suddenly became a laughingstock for something that wasn't his decision to make and for losing to the Jets with his third-string QB in. The media in general is a bunch of drooling morons, the sports media doubly so.

This forum would explode into dust if Justin Fields or Carson Wentz was the quarterback.

Let's stop that nonsense. Brady was a seventh round pick. No one expected him to be good and look where he is now. One SPOT emergency start isn't even enough to sample him on. Im rooting for him but that doesn't mean im not concerned. If Coach thinks he is good enough to be on his team let's see what a week of practice and a game plan around him will look like.

Maybe he will suck but we already know TUA isn't a long term answer and he's one more concussion away from the NFL barring him from ever playing again. So we are going to be looking for a new QB IMHO this offseason.

Skylar might not be the next anyone but he deserves a chance. Teddy isn't winning us anything I don't care what his history shows he isn't the same Teddy not does it look like he gives a damn about it.

We don't yet know Tua isn't a long term answer. I agree with your take on Skylar.. have to give him a chance. One game says nothing. Same with Tua. Give him the chance to start the majority of games this season and lead us to the playoffs. Can't just assume he's not durable enough as a starting QB.

I do agree though if Tua isn't available maybe 6+ games this season then we really need to look for a new QB next year even if we keep Tua.

Skylar is already far ahead of most of those 6th, 7th, and undrafted QBs. How many of them started a game? How many even had good to decent pre-seasons? I am rooting for Skylar to prove himself to be a great backup and possible future trade bait. He has shown enough that both are still very possible. Look at the best backups we've had in the last 20 years. Matt Moore was undrafted. Fitzy was a 7th round pick. Teddy hasn't played much as a Dolphin, and I only mention him because of his pedigree, not his play as a Dolphin. So, I have the same bias I suppose.

For Skylar to be a starter/franchise... Needs show much better accuracy. Which seems like it is the toughest thing to improve. Which is also why those doubting Tua seem to be missing why he can be so very good. Right now the only thing holding Tua back is consistency, which should get better with experience and practice. And, when I write holding "him back", I mean from being one of the best in the game. He is already a high level starter.

I hope he goes out there and tears **** up this weekend. I hope he RIPS Minnesota with 4 TD scores and we beat their *** soundly with him at quarterback. After that, I hope everyone on here freaks out about it and it becomes super heated in here with lots of personal attacks. After that I hope BSPN starts their BS as well, all the Tua haters will rise up as one and start chanting. All of the remaining Tua supporters will go retreating back into a den of doubt that will haunt them internally while they continue fighting for Tua. Skylar Thompson will suddenly be battling Cooper Rush for the MVP of the league award this season. This would really bring us back, so this is what we should all hope that he does regardless of you feel about Tua, Herbert, or McDaniel? Is it Josh that's our coach? Randall? WTF....Of course Mike! Obviously I'm kidding, but damn....I really do hope he puts up like he did in the preseason. The kid has got some guts, I'll give him that. He's a football player first and he's going to do well for us I think. Lets hope anyway.

I feel the same way. He's a Dolphin. He's our starting QB. There's really nothing else to say- I hope he beats the league passing record in a single game and we win by 80.

He's raw, he doesn't know the system, and he played horrible in his 1st NFL start with no prep. We all know that. It's facts. But that has nothing to do with what he can do in game 2 with a week of practice with the 1's and good coaching. I'm hoping he lights it up something fierce!

One week of practice isn't going to change anything. Miami's defense needs to show up and show up hard. They need to be responsible for at least 14 points and give Thompson good field position. If they have to rely on Thompson shooting out with Cousins, you're gonna be disappointed.

This game is all on the defense.

Considering the circumstances, I think Skylar played well.

He's a first year, third string QB. He didn’t have any first string reps and no time to prepare. He was playing on a team without its two star CBs and without its high priced, big FA signing and supposed star LT protecting his blind side. The OL was a disaster. He also didn't have Tua nor Teddy on the sideline to give him advice and help.....and, at one point, he had the team down only two points in the fourth quarter. I'm not making it out to be more than it was, but when you consider the circumstances, what he did was actually kind of impressive.

He did nothing to excite me. He got the benefit of a couple ticky tack pass interference calls on poorly thrown balls and a couple of questionable 4th down calls by the Jets giving him manageable field position. Without a bad drop and missed field goal, he could have had the lead at one point but I'm going to attribute that to McDaniel adjusting and dumbing it down for a kid who clearly was uncomfortable playing. When he lost his armband he looked like a little boy lost in the mall.

But, I have to trust McDaniel that he will put him in a situation where he is not asked to do much. You're going to see a lot of screen passes, trick plays and possibly wildcat formations.

Yeah, I'm not saying I'm excited about him either. I just don't understand the response to his game. He legitimately led them to 27 points, even though in reality the TD was dropped and the FG was missed. That doesn't change his level of play, and what his play led to.

I'm not saying he's going to be Tom Brady.

We will lose bad if we go into trickery and screens.. the vikings fully expect that to be the case and will stack the box, run zero blitz.

Let him sling it.. you got tyreek and waddle open almost every other play. If he cant complete some passes with the separation those two create then youre not making it in the league

You know though…that’s how you can draw a pass interference call. A speedy receiver, a defender sprinting to keep up, ball thrown short, receiver slows to make the catch and the defender runs right in/through him thus, defensive pass interference.

I’m surprised this “tactic” hasn’t been intentionally implemented by all the teams in the league. Hell, I’d even practice it. Anything to move the ball down field

In addition, let’s scheme up a few easy routes over the middle to our 10 million dollar TE. The Vikes won’t be expecting that, since he hasn’t been a focal point so far this season.

I expect us to lose big. Even if we lose a close game, I will consider that a positive with Tua out.

Hoping for no injuries. I want to see what the oline will look like with Austin Jackson back in. Slightly less sh*tty I would imagine, but not by much.

This might be a shootout given the firepower the Vikings have on offense. I hope the offense is up to the task.

Having a hard time looking forward to this one. I see our defense having a very hard time with Jefferson, then add in our poor tackling recently - trying to tackle Dalvin Cook. Oh and then Adam thielen too

have no idea what to expect on this game......McDaniel with a big opportunity to make the most with the least here....sometimes your offense wins it and sometimes you need your defense to win it but sometimes you need a great game plan from your coaching staff.....this is one of those games.

If we ever needed a day for the D to really step up and get back to ideal form said day is tomorrow.

I don't think Miami is going to win. Non conference game won't matter too much. Season starts back over next week.

This is a tough one......we will need a few things to go our way to pull this out, but that is entirely possible. Hope Skylar benefits from the practice this week and the coaches design up the offense to get the ball out of his hands quickly.

At the end of the day we all have our opinions about Teddy and Skylar but the fact remains that McDaniel has some really good coaches around him... Coaches that have been in the NFL for a long time and have been around QB's for a long time. IF MM thought Bridgewater on a short week gave us a better shot at winning Sunday I have 100% confidence he would run Teddy out there. The fact that he thinks Thompson, with one or two more days of practice with the first teamers, is a better option then his vet on a short practice week speaks volumes. Now it may mean he likes Skylar (and he does) or that the doesn't like what he's seen out of Bridgewater (which many of us agree with).. Either way we have to trust this coaching staff with putting the guys out there that give us the best opportunity. So far MM has earned my respect and trust. If he says Thompson makes us better Sunday then I'm on board.

He sounds like a 7th round version of Tua

Accuracy

Skylar’s accuracy shines brightest when throwing short routes. He shows great anticipation and timing and can place the ball slightly in front of receivers. This ability allows his receivers to gain good YAC. He has a slightly greater margin of error on intermediate passes but, I would say you could still call his accuracy in this department a strength. Thompson shows a good ability to throw into tight windows on short and intermediate routes, especially on slant and out routes.

He also has shown the ability to anticipate throws between zone defenders to his receivers. However, his accuracy diminishes a bit on the deep ball. This can mostly be attributed to his lack of great arm strength. By lowering his base, he could help his accuracy issues.. He also tends to struggle with backfoot and off-balance throws. Thompson also struggles with accuracy outside the numbers, especially on deeper routes. Overall, I feel there is a bit to work on in terms of his accuracy but, I would still call his accuracy a strength in his passing game.

I think reasons line is so close is Vikings are 4-1 but they were getting the doors blown off them by the bears - lions almost beat them and they needed a miracle to beat the saints

their defense is very suspect - they play cover 2 so the opportunity to run the Ball WILL BE there.

if Tua played I don’t think it’s close - with Teddy I also think we win easily - with skylar is is 50/50

as long as skylar doesn’t start turning the ball over I think we will be ok - I’m curious how they play Jefferson. One on one with X? Or put needham on him n have Holland over the top ? Then have X shadow one on one thielen?

from now on McD has to prove he can handle the problems of being a HC when things fly off the handle!
fixing things when things go wrong, and find solutions for personal situations.
the main thing is the defense giving up so many yrds pass defending and o-line.
