What They're Saying...
Pain. Cousins will hand us the 🏈 a few times but it won't be enough. Vikes with 4 TDs to our 5 FGs and we lose.
Going to look like the Packers game or worse.
We lose. Unless they have a conversation on opening up the offense. To me it's more the same though. I think Getsy has no faith in Fields that's why he basically only runs in the redzone. Though I agree with everyone else. Let Fields show you he can or can't. Fans need to see it for themselves or they will get down on this coaching staff quickly IMO.
Even that won't help. The cupboard is bare, and that was intentional and I'm also on-board with it. It bears repeating (NPI) that Poles wanted to strip the franchise to the studs and start over, and that's exactly what he's doing. Too many meatballs want some kind of return this season and that's an insane expectation. Too many meatballs act as if Ryan Pace's drafting of Fields has set our destiny and we dare not veer from it. That's also insane. Standing on a premise that we're committed to the kid and we should be building around him will prevent this TEAM from developing.
Cousins at home early in the season is going to overwhelm the DEF, Jefferson is going to find Gordan, and Cook is going to run wild.
Fields 15-28, 200 yards, 1 TD passing, 1 turnover
Look for the Vikings to crowd the box, play a cover-1 or a cover 0 on first and second downs. If E-Flaus has any guts he'll direct Getsy to open up the OFF. I don't think he will, so look for lots of short passes on first down, runs on second creating 3rd and longs. I fully expect lots of RB/QB draws on 3rd downs and lots of punts.
Vikings 40-Bears 20
Again, its not the losing that is frustrating to many of us, its how they are losing. Fields isn't getting enough critical reps (redzone passes, shots on 1st and 2nd downs, roll-outs, play-action) to grow as a QB. VJones (despite his dropped punt) needs to get touches on OFF. They have to game plan him touches. But none of this will happen. E-Flaus will play it close to the vest and the score line slowly gets worse.
What they should do? 2 minute drill from the start. Max-protect for shots downfield. Run parallel go routes at the single safety we know they will see. Lots of 3WR formations, 2 TE formations and empty backfields. Use Jones as a RB, jet motion handoffs, etc. But they won't.

Sadly the Bears are going to lose and lose big.
I predict Vikes win 27-13.
I was just thinking this is first time I can remember going into this game without a plausible scenario on how Bears win. We run for 200 yards and get 4 turnovers. That’s the best I can come up with.
If Cousins melts down (which we all know he is quite capable of) the Bears win. But I'm afraid Cook is going to have 160+ yards and when the Bears are forced to stack the box, Jefferson 1v1 deep against Gordan or Vildor is a recipe for disaster.
Bears aren’t going to put enough pressure on Cousins to cause a meltdown. Their passing game will be effective enough that they won’t need much from Cook. He could get 160 yards if he has 30 carries, but I don’t see that happening. Bears will need another big rushing day plus a couple turnovers just to keep it close.
This franchise is embarrassing.
I don't even want to think about it.
I'll get the party started.

The Bears are exactly what nearly everyone thought in the offseason, actually better at 2-2 then most thought.
The Vikings are a team trying to compete with Green Bay for a division title.
If Jaylon Johnson is out this game is going to be a rough watch. If he plays it will be a little better, but the chances of a win here are not good. Quinn is doing the expected off season(how's that "he will be most valuable in a trade before the deadline" group feeling about those claims now?) so we need to generate some pressure or the Vikings are going to march up and down the field at will. The key will be holding them to field goals in the red zone to keep the game within reach.
What we should be looking for offensively is another step forward for Fields. Put together 4 quarters of acceptable QB play. Let's get another shot to Mooney and try to get Kmet involved a bit. Keep leaning on the run game. Keep the Vikings on the sideline as much as possible. Keep Fields upright.
All that gets done and this is still a loss, but a more respectable one. I'll be fine with that outcome.
Remember - young hungry teams lose alot early while they learn. The wins need to come in December to give hope for next year. That's the goal.
Vikings win 27-17.

The Vikings have a habit of playing to their competition, but given the way the Bears run D has been gashed and the way the Vikings D can apply pressure on the QB, it's a pretty bad matchup for us this week. All that said, I think it's going to be a bit closer than most would expect:
Vikings - 27

We are going to get steamrolled if we come out with anything close to the same game plan that we had against the Giants. The Vikings are much better than NY. If our JJ can't go, their JJ is going to run wild in our secondary and have 12 catches for 215 yards and 3 TD's. Our OL is going to get bum rushed, and I expect JF1 to be running for his life most of the day. Our receivers will get zero separation. If Getsy calls another sh*t game, we sill start hearing more and louder noise about his inability as an OC.

The Giants game really altered my long range forecast. Up to then, I always had the Bears finishing with 8-9 wins. Now I only favor the Bears when they play the Commanders, but expect the ball will bounce their way often enough to actually win 4-5 more for 6-7 wins total. I also have them suffering at least 3 blowouts, but the Vikings shouldn't be one of them.

I was originally going to predict the Vikings blowing us out, but I've been reborn.
It's going on Week 5, and I'm already semi or fully Biblical about this team. I don't see a way out of this sh*t hole game, but I'm not the one in control.
Bears upset the Vikings. Fields has a great game.

We are playing the Vikings and Kirk Freaking Cousins!!!!!!!!!!
Enough with this doom and gloom crap!!!!
We are at 2-2 and the only way we get to 15-2 like I predicted at the start of the season is to win this one!!!!
Last week Fields threw for 174. That's a 175% improvement in yardage. He does that again and throw for 307 yards. Mooney more than tripled his total yardage for the year with 94 yards. This time he sets a new career in yards for a game with 157 shattering his high of 126. Herbert got his feet wet for the year as a starter last week and comes in and doubles last week production with 162 yards on the ground. Quinn says "hey guys don't you forget about me" (or maybe he watches Breakfast Club the night before the game and sings the song by Simple Minds) and racks up 4 sacks and is completely unstoppable. But wait there's more!!! Velus Jones makes people say "Maybe that Hester guy was overrated?" As he chips in a TD on a kickoff, a punt and a bubble screen he takes 74 yards to the house.
Yeah, it's gonna be laugher like many of you are calling for!!!! But the laughter is going to be toward the Vikings and Kirk FREAKING Cousins!!!!

Having seen the Vikings on Sunday against the Saints, they weren't all that impressive. They're a decent team but not one to be especially frightened of.
Early on Cousins threw to the sidelines a lot, as in almost every time. He did complete a couple of nice deep throws later which should concern the Bears D. In the run game they ground out some yards with Cook but he didn't have any big runs. The Bears D has been good at adjusting in the second half and still haven't allowed a TD. If they can start better than they have so far this season then they'll have a decent chance of keeping the Viking's scoring in check. If the Bears can get any pressure on Cousins then it wouldn't be a surprise to see Jackson secure yet another interception because Cousins does throw the occasional wayward pass.
Defensively the Saints were able to run on them. Murray was consistently productive, far more so than Ingram, so it would make sense for the Bears to run with the hot hand and not switch backs for whole drives seemingly at random. (Why was Ebner in to start the second half against the Giants?) Fields' predecessor, one Andy Dalton, had a decent performance against the Vikings' defense as well. They will get pressure so Fields will need to do a better job of getting rid of the ball quickly than he has so far and take what's there. Hill was effective on the few plays they put him in, so perhaps some designed runs for Fields would be too.
Ultimately the 1-3 Saints were a string of defensive penalties away from defending their lead and then a double-doink away from taking the game into overtime. (It was a really enjoyable one to watch!)
The keys to this game are going to be the Bears pass protection, which was abysmal against the Giants and is now missing Whitehair, and whether their secondary can limit Jefferson. Jaylon Johnson's availability is going to be a significant factor in the latter.

If Jaylon Johnson can't play this week, it might be even worse than that. Kyler Gordon against Justin Jefferson?? That's a blood bath waiting to happen, my goodness. I don't see the offense getting better any time soon, they may get one TD or kick a few FG's. This is a terrible roster and Justin Fields looks hesitant/uncomfortable behind a porous pass blocking OL. I wish I could say I'm surprised, but we all knew this is how the season would go, right?

Like I've been saying these guys are going to lose some they should have won (last week) and then win some they look like they shouldn't. And expect it when you least expect it. There will also be some unlikely heroes - like Armon Watts getting two sacks against the team that waived him, and Kyler Gordon reminding people that while he hasn't looked good he is a rookie and can play a little.
The games the Bears unexpectedly win will be sparked by vets: So here comes Eddie with another INT and a breakup or two helping out on Jefferson, and the Bears contain the increasingly unthreatening Viking run game with athletic DEs and Roquan having another good game. One key watershed moment here is Getsy realizing he's at fault for nearing zero pass attempts in or near the red zone - and corrects that to the tune of 3 JF1 TDs.

kind of surprised at how many have chosen the Vikings in a blowout ... the Bears are not the type of team that is going to get blown out ... they are the type of team that will continue to tease with possibilities and potential and have the ability to hang around and stay in games before ultimately giving in to their inherent suck factor

I don’t see how the Bears stop the Vikings from scoring. Cook might be able to move the ball even if the Vikings are up big and milking the clock.
I think The Bears will stay conservative for too long and the game will be out of reach before they know it. It would be nice if they let Fields throw a little in garbage time but I’m not counting on it.

Going to be hard to pick the Bears again until it looks like Fields can actually make a throw at the bottom of his drop without freezing up and overthinking it.
Vikings have way too much offensive talent to contend with.
D. Cook might finally get his game to exact revenge for all of his mediocre finishes against the beloved.
