After last night, I like where the Vikings are

Some observations comparing last night's monstrosity of a football game, and where the Vikings stand.
All of you folks that wanted the Vikings to trade for Russell Wilson, take a seat. After you sit down, contemplate what you said, and ask for forgiveness.
Can you imagine being a Broncos fan right now? They gave up two 1's, two 2's, a 5, TE Noah Fant, QB Drew Lock, and DL Shelby Harris for him. The Broncos then turned around and gave Wilson a contract that is SO BAD that they can't realistically cut him until 2026, when the dead money hit will still be $31 mil, but a cap savings of 27 mil. If they release him before then he has a dead money hit of 107 mil next year, 85 mil in 2024, and 49.6 mil in 2025.
All the folks that thought Nathaniel Hackett should have been the head coach of the Vikings (and to be fair, I don't recall a lot of fans clamoring for Hackett), this guy seems WAY in over his head. Maybe he'll get better, but after five games, Denver seems like they're a complete mess, and when you have fans leaving the stadium before the overtime period starts, you're in trouble.
This brings me to Broncos GM George Paton. For all of you who thought the Vikings let the best front office guy in the organization get away...
/nervously looks around
/chuckles to myself
Take a seat.

Yeah, I was that guy. The one thing I won't do is try to cover up my bad takes, though. I said more than once on VR that I thought the Vikes made a HUGE mistake in keeping Rick Spielman at the end of 2020 and letting Denver hire Paton as their GM. So far, Paton has been a disaster. In the 2021 Draft, his first, he took Patrick Surtain II. Now, he's a good player, but this is a QB league. Justin Fields and Mac Jones were still on the board, and he could've had a young QB, on a rookie contract, to build around, and he didn't have to trade up to get either of those guys.
"But Ted," you're saying to yourself, "Justin Fields sucks."
So far, yes. But Drew and I have talked about this before on our show. I think the success rate of a QB is greatly influenced by the coaching staff and talent he goes to. There is none in Chicago, and maybe...maybe not, but maybe...he would've had a better set up for success in Denver. Anyway, he passed on QB, and then this past off-season he let himself get FLEECED by Seattle, with the contract he gave Wilson, all he can do is hope that Wilson can turn it around.
Denver is in a bad, bad, spot, and they have no real good options. The Vikings, on the other hand, have a good QB, a guy who I think is really doing a great job as GM right now in terms of trying to fix the salary cap issue long term while keeping the Vikes competitive and not gutting the team like the Bears, and they have a coach that while young and learning, doesn't have a deer in the headlights look like Hackett does, hasn't made any real bonehead moves in terms of clock management, and play calling in crucial moments has been pretty good, all in all.
I know there's a sizable contingent of fans who aren't sold on this team, but when you look around the NFL, there are much, MUCH worse situations.
