3-1 is 3-1. Better than 2-2, 1-3, & 0-4. I don’t care how we got to 3 wins after 4 weeks. This is still a new entire football system on both sides of the ball that these players are trying to figure out. What I do care about is building upon each week. “Building bricks” is becoming a cliche this season but it’s a fair and accurate expectation for a new system. Building includes coming home and beating a much weaker opponent - the type of games we have been dreading the past few seasons.
Here’s how we beat the Bears….
1) PRESSURE UP THE MIDDLE! In the trenches on our defensive side of the ball. The Bears OL is banged up and not very good. Their best OL player just went on IR. Their projected linemen have overall PFF ratings with only 1 in the 70’s, 2 in the 60’s, & 2 in the 50’s. Pass block ratings are even worse with 1 in the 70’s, 1 in the 60’s, 1 in the 50’s, 1 in the 40’s, and 1 in the 20’s. There is an opportunity here to put tremendous in Field’s lap and force him to rush throws or try to break out of the pocket.
2) SLING IT AND DONT BE AFRAID TO GO TO THE DEEP
OPTION! After much effort in trying to remain positive, I have to admit that KC left some deep options out on the field against the Saints. With the Bears injured at CB and 2 rookies in the secondary, KC needs to correct his reads and take advantage of these weakened and young secondary. He needs to take the shots he wouldn’t take against the Saints.
3) KEEP BUILDING! Since 2000, we have only been 4-1 or better 6 times to start a season. 27%. We have that opportunity. We just need to keep learning our roles and responsibilities and I have complete faith that this will all begin to click.
