The guy is still wearing a brace for Pete's sake, slow down a bit until he can practice without the brace.I don't see that brace coming off anytime soon, and I don't know why he can't or shouldn't play with it on, like RG3 did for awhile.
As to the first part; there was ample evidence to anyone who watched Tom Brady play at Michigan, that he was a damn fine QB.
So damn fine that he wasn't drafted until the 6th round?
I was much more impressed by Tom Brady than I ever was by Drew Henson.
Pics or it didn't happen. Brady wasn't all that impressive at Michigan. In 638 attempts he had 61% completions, 30 TD's, and 17 INT's. Nothing to indicate he was the next Montana.
And you know what else? Tom Brady was drafted, by the Patriots-so they weren't going to take the chance that someone else would pick him up. They didn't place him on waivers, so that every team could have a shot at him.
Well that's weird, the other 30 teams had 192 chances to pick him up before the Patriots. Why would they risk such a coveted prospect? And what could be different about the Patriots situation in 2000 compared to the Broncos in 2017? Could it be the Patriots didn't have a QB injury situation that forced their hand? Nope, they had Drew Bledsoe who started all 16 games in 1999 and again in 2000.
To the second: If Denver is in win-now mode, and Sloter is the can't miss developmental prospect you think he is; why, how, could a personal guy like Elway-a guy who has built a Super Bowl winning roster-think Brock Osweiler is a better option should Siemian go down?
Do you not know the difference between win now mode and future prospect? The clues are all there. If Siemian went down then they were pretty much a 4-12 team with a raw guy like Sloter. Brock had experience and already knew their system. Plus Brock already proved he could win in that system. Why do you think he became such a valuable free agent to begin with? Seems like a no brainer decision from Elway's POV.
Answer that. It isn't a hypothetical situation. He had Kyle Sloter, and said "Nope. I want Brock Osweiler". He willingly exposed the guy to waivers-every team had a chance. And EVERY TEAM PASSED! 32 teams, for two weeks, could have grabbed this guy for the cost of a roster spot, but not one of them did!
I answered the first part, multiple times. And 2 weeks lol? It was 2 days. Broncos waived him Sept 2nd because that's when Osweiler became available, and he was claimed by the Vikings Sept 4th. And it took 2 days because there's a process.
“(The Vikings) told me they weren’t focusing their efforts on any other quarterback,” said Sloter, who will wear No. 1. “They came after me hard for two days. They put their money where their mouth was, and that meant a lot to me.”
You are willing to suspend disbelief enough to assume that Rick Spielman-drafter of Christian Ponder, drafter of Teddy Bridgewater, signer if Taylor Heinicke-is the NFL's pre-eminent mind when it comes to judging QB talent?
Point to the statistics where any of those other 3 even looked good in preseason. Let me know when they even passed the eye test. Someone who goes 31/43 for 413 yards, 3 TD's, and 0 INT's is worth a 2nd look don't you think? That's all I'm asking. Hang onto him through camp and preseason next year and see what you got. What do we have to lose?
Because that is what your post-combined with the above stated facts-implies. That only the Vikings realize how great Kyle Sloter may someday be?
You mean the "facts" you made up in your alternative reality lol? Can a team win a bidding war against itself? Sounds like we weren't the only ones interested in the kid.
Anybody could have had him after he was waived AND while he was on the Vikings practice squad, and passed. Any team could have had him for a minimum, non-guaranteed contract, with no signing bonus (what he got when he was brought to the active roster). So, he is no financial burden. Those are facts. That means, pretty much by definition, that everybody thought the 2 or 3 QBs on their roster are better than him. So, the Vikings are supposed to be hitching their wagon to a guy most teams seem to believe is something like the 75th best QB available? That is your position?
My position is, lets see what the kid has next year. I'm not pretending to know he's the next Aaron Rodgers. Like you said, he's no financial burden and in the little tape we have on him, he looks like a bonafide NFL QB. How many great QB's have been passed up by many teams? Brady, Rodgers, Montana, Favre, Wilson. And how many busts have gone top 10? So that's your only argument? That not many teams have shown an interest so he must not be very good? Clearly the league doesn't always have a clue.
Because no matter how pissed you may be if the Vikings lose Kyle Sloter-it is nothing compared to the MOTHER f*cking KRAKATOA!!! I will be if going into to 2018 our starting QB is Kyle f*cking Sloter-undrafted, unwanted, Broncos cast off-and future Hall of Famer.
Everyone needs to quit straw manning my argument. Nowhere have I said I think Sloter should be the #1 QB going into camp next year. The only thing I'm saying is, he appears to be one hell of a prospect (IMO) and I want us to hang onto him so we can get a better look next season. That's it. I agree that we need other options. Regardless of whether or not we keep Sloter, we're going to need a starter next year. I just hope it's not Sam, Teddy, or Case. I would be ok with Case if he could become more consistent and play well down the stretch. When he's on, he has the "it" factor, the problem is, he's not on as often as we need him. Otherwise my stance for next year would be, find a reliable starter, Case #2, Sloter #3.
