First time in three years I've been fired up for the season

2018 was the last time I felt really excited about the Vikings heading into the season. I thought the Vikings were going to make a deep playoff run, and they went a disappointing 8-7-1 and missed the playoffs. In the final game of the year, that embarrassing home loss against the Bears, Adam Thielen and Kirk Cousins were openly arguing on the sidelines, and that moment encapsualted the 2018 version of the Vikings in a nutshell. Frustration.
2019's playoff victory against the Saints was a highlight, but deep down I felt the Vikings would have been better to move on from Mike Zimmer. It felt that he had taken the team as far as he could, but man, it was still cool beating the Saints. In the playoffs. Again. But Drew and I talked about this on Vikings Report. Something was off with that team. There was stuff going on behind the scenes that we didn't know about, but would find out later.
COVID just sucked the fun out of everything in 2020, especially the Vikings. The talent on the roster dropped, and seemed to bottom out last year, as the Vikes finished under .500. Zimmer and Spielman were let go, and in the weeks and monts afterward we found out how truly dysfunctional the organization had become under their leadership.
But with the bad comes the good--a new coach, a new GM, and an infusion of talent on defense. Right now, as we approach kickoff in a couple days, I am all in on the Vikings. No reason to be pessimistic today.
I like the vibe of this 2022 Vikings team.
I think more and more that this new coach/GM combo is worth 2 wins alone. Most people don't truly understand how bad things can be in a small group setting if the leadership is toxic. And what the Vikings had the last 2-3 years was incredibly toxic. When you add in an offensive minded coach that can tap into this full potential of this offense, and a new look defense that has better players than the last couple seasons, there's a lot to like about this season, in my opinion.
I'm a Vikings fan, and my whole life I know how the season ends, so yeah just miss me with that right now. If the team is bad come October then I'll cross that bridge when I get there.
But right now, today, this is a good football team. I'm all in. SKOL!
