When I came to this forum, I vowed to myself that I would not give in to the dark side and instead view the team through a glass half full. It’s not easy. I’ve had 40+ years of emotional conditioning that the Vikings would fail me. This year though, this year, as I turn my perspective from pessimism to optimism, so to will the fortunes of this team.
SO LETS GO!
Week 1. Green Bay. Positively Purple!
We win because:
1). The players have something to prove. They know that last year was a few plays, a couple of drives away from producing a playoff team. That taste is bitter. It eats at the soul of an athlete. So if it’s an defense that yielded a record breaking number of scores inside 2 minutes or an offense that failed to maintain a drive, all of these players have something to prove. They will come out on fire!
2) KOC has created a positive vibe. KOC walked into the building and behind him came all the winds of change. To quote the great Neil Peart, “All at once, the clouds are parted. Light streams down in bright, unbroken beams”. That kind of change can be infectious. It can bring the best out of the people directly involved. It’s this new attitude that will benefit the team in week 1.
3) Green Bay is green at key positions. Yes, they have Rodgers and usually that has been enough but not in week 1 with some of the limitations they currently have. The wide receiver group doesn’t have a leader. Adams is gone. Cobb is old. They have 2 good rookies in their first game. In addition, their interior OL is not good. Runyan, Newman, and Myers have a PFF of 64.6, 55.7, & 54.9 respectfully. Meanwhile Tomlinson and Phillips both hover around 75.0.
These are just 3 reasons why I believe that the Vikings will prevail this Sunday. (FYI - variations of the next sentence has been deleted 3 times due to the author viewing the variations as to negative). This is team is physically superior and more emotionally healthy then they have in past several years. That gives me hope and keep me positively purple.
