Is it Bradbury?

I mean im not judging him on that one play, his play for the last 4 years is the problem. His pass protection has been the issue for years hes gotten bullied. The problem is when your a 1st round pick at Center at what pick #18, your expecting that guy to be a 10+ year veteran who is solid at the very least if not a great center. We have gotten a major bust on our hands. If anything I think people have given him the benefit of doubt that MAYBE it is because of poor guard play around him. Again he had a weak RG last year next to him, Erza was solid. This year will be the final season of excuses for a lot of players on this team and Bradbury is one of those guys. You've got the offensive coach at the helm and a guy who went out of his way to claim confidence in you. Hes going to have a better and probably best RG hes had next to him his whole career whoever that may be, and another year of Erza who should only be better. There really are no more excuses for this guy and hell be gone this year if he doesnt produce.

Here's to hoping Phillips does that to opposing Centers and Guards!
Regarding Bradbury, it would be good to know in Camp if he is still going to be a Liability. A good contingency plan other than Schlottman would be smart.

Hes still here mainly because he was a first round pick and is still on his rookie contract. If this what a guy on his second contract who was holding a decent cap hit, he wouldve been cut. To his credit he is solid in the run game and screens, and has worked with Kirk the last what 3/4 years. Maybe him and Kirk got something going on with his hands    I was shocked they brought no one in for competition but Kevin seems to think he can work with him. Well see and only time will tell. 

A couple things:

- He didn't just have a horrendous 2021; he's had a horrendous pass-blocking career from Year 1 (2019) until Year 3 (2021). And now when we're seemingly turning to an offensive system that will be passing a bit more than run-first under Zimmer's plethora of OC's, it's certainly a concern.

- He was a 1st Rd draft pick selected inside the Top 20. Typically when you take an interior OL player inside the Top 20 picks, you're selecting someone the caliber of Quenton Nelson. Nelson was selected in the 2018 Draft (year right before Bradbury) and here is a short list of IOL players drafted in the Top 20 picks since 2018 and their average career PFF grades: Quenton Nelson (81.6), Frank Ragnow (77.1), Chris Lindstrom (75.8), Garrett Bradbury (59.9) and Alijah Vera-Tucker (66.8). Bradbury is the only one of the five who has a career PFF grade below 60.0, and that includes Vera-Tucker who's rookie year exceeded Bradbury's career so far. Outside of him having basically no injury concerns, to say he hasn't given the Vikings enough return on their draft capital investment is an understatement, and when you have a guy you invested so much in underperforming like he has been, you can bet they'll be under the microscope that much more vs other guys who might miss a play here-and-there.

- Bradbury's primary backup, Schlottman, has had worse pass-blocking grades (and overall PFF grades) than Bradbury the last 2 seasons. If Bradbury goes down and Reed isn't the primary OC2 on the 53-man roster, it's possible the Vikings have arguably the worst pass-blocking OC's in the entire NFL...in a pass-first league, and probably a pass-first Shanahan offense in which our star WR player is making proclamations about being the best WR in the NFL.

I think fans realize it's just 1 padded practice (Day 5, no less) in Training Camp, but given Bradbury's history, it's certainly not unreasonable for Viking media pundits and fans alike to express a bit of concern.

Also, JC Tretter isn't the only veteran free agent OC that could possibly bring some veteran "upgrade" over Bradbury. Matt Paradis, who is reportedly recovered from his 2021 in-season injury - isn't the player he once was, but his recent seasons with Carolina still grade-out better than Bradbury's.

A negative take that could be true. It would suck if Davis sucks. Then the Vikings would need Ingram to step up at RG and Reed to take over at C. (Evidently Wyatt Davis peaked as an All-American lineman at Ohio State.)

Should he even have one bad play though? What's the bad play rate of the other OL?

That's the question here. I'm hearing Phillips has been looking good, but if he's going up against Bradbury all day lol. I mean maybe Bradbury has improved and Phillips is just that good ... or Bradbury is still terrible and that's the only reason Phillips looks good?

Which is odd because Bradbury wasn't the new regimes mistake, so they could have easily moved on. They've made him their mistake now though, for some reason. It's disappointing knowing that the regime has tripled down on Kirk knowing one of his biggest weaknesses is pressure up the middle, and they didn't come up with a better plan to help him. It's going to be 8-9 all over again if Bradbury gets forklifted into Kirks lap all season again. Tretter is still out there I guess.

So, why is JC Tretter still unsigned, by anyone at all and especially by the Vikings? The Browns released him, so would we have to pay his contract? Are we afraid of having the NFLPA President in the locker room?
