So reports surfaced from Monday how Harrison Phillips pushed Garrett Bradbury into the backfield. A majority of Viking fandom shuddered and rolled their eyes. THIS, this right here will be the undoing of this seemingly promising season. THAT one player is going to cost us any hope of making the playoffs.
But is he though?
There are some players who have had those few plays in 2021 that stood out for all the wrong reasons. Dantzler had Detroit. One play and now all of Vikingville thinks he’s the worst and are just waiting for him to fail this training camp in order to validate their belief, off of one play, that Dantzler does not being with the 1s.
Bradbury, in my mind, fits that category. Yes, his body of unforgivable plays is much larger. He had a horrendous 2021. The front office gave him a bit of a vote of no confidence when they did not pick up the 5th year of his rookie deal.
Yet, he’s still here. Why? There are other options. There are players on this 90 that could probably play center. And oh yeah, there’s some veteran free agent still out there that even though I see his name 10 times a day, I can’t seem to remember his name. So why is here?
I think that the staff believes that Bradbury is the guy. His positives as captain of the line outweigh his flaws. They think that Bradbury is not nearly the liability that Vikington thinks he is. And that’s good enough for me.
It was one play reported on the first day of pads in camp. Funny how no one reported on all the other dozens of plays where he managed to hold his own. That one play was “news” because EVERYONE has been waiting for this guy to have THAT one play.
When you claim you are rooting for a guy and then bail on him because of 1 bad play out 50, then maybe it isn’t Bradbury. Maybe it’s you.
