Here's a fun thing to consider:
"If Stafford can do it..."
Right, but Stafford has a losing career record and proves that it takes a team.
"..if we had a Brady or a Mahommes..."
They were both spectators for the SuperBowl last year, and both had some seriously forgettable games. Ask Tom about that last NO game.

"...and MVP Aaron Rodgers..."
Aw, widdle Erin...worshipped by pundits, hasn't been to the show in a decade, routinely bounced out of the playoffs by the same SF team that he's still butthurt at for not drafting him.

This is also another QB you probably don't want to compare his career to Cousins' though. Again, it won't go well.
All spectators last time around. The teams that got in had good QBs, but were pretty educational in just how much of a team effort it takes to get the whole thing. Ditto for Allen, Wilson, Murray, and essentially all of the others that the sports media man-sturbate over.
It may be easier to get there with the elite QBs, but even the best QB needs targets, blocking, and the other facets to do their bits. This last Superbowl maybe showed that more than any other since Eli Manning or Trent Dilfer won.

Brady, Wilson, Allen, Rodgers and Mahomes don't win a lot more games than they lose because they are just lucky. They win a lot more because they make bad teams average, average teams good and good teams great. Cousins just doesn't elevate the team and while he is pretty consistent about not bringing a team down, he has done that more often (2018) than he has ever improved a team. He just isn't worth the investment of not only cap space, but the wasted seasons where the Vikings could have been looking for that next Brady, Wilson, Allen, Rodgers or Mahomes that might actually have turned this franchise around.
For instance, no one is gonna convince me that we had a head coach for the last 8 seasons that could have really developed a Mahommes, etc. That took the right kid going to the right place, and also having the right guy in front of him to learn from. A huge amount was involved.
Erin inherited a team that'd been used to having its QB as a central figure forever, and he got to learn directly behind said QB for years. Special circumstances, again.
Brady typically has some of the best blocking, and very solid defense when he gets fresh jewelry. Wilson needed the Legion of Boom. Eli had a helluva defense getting him more chances.
There ARE people that want to push team stats as QB responsibilities, and yes...on this board, even in this thread. You certainly want a very good one, but a good team tends to accentuate a good QB...so, hoping that our QB gets time with the kinds of luxuries the "elites" enjoy shouldn't be a negative concept for any fan of the team, right?
I've never said he's an all-pro, perfect (said specifically that's he's not, kinda consistently), or anything like that...but, his circumstances have also been difficult/odd enough that I am optimistic that the change in coaching mindset could take him from scratching at the top 10 to solidly within it by year's end. He's been in it, before.
How's that so golly-gosh-darned terrible?
