What if Kevin is wrong?

Now we got an offensive minded coach so let's see if 2 DC's get forced out mid season. I don't think he was involved much with X's and O's but something was causing those disasters. OC's position was always in transition and it's still the HC's job to get involved before it gets to the point of guys leaving or forced out before the end. Whether he wanted to or not. He had a job requirement that didn't end with defense. Kevin simply can't be half a HC and expect it to be better if the DC changes during his tenure. 

That's a non-starter on this board.  Believe me.  

You are right. Paying out of the nose has EXTREME costs. Just look at Bradford, and, of course, Cousins. Hopefully he dont have the last cost after this year. Then we can be truly optimistic about this team.

Wow, you'd give a kidney to Cousins wouldnt you? Even though you have to be at least 90. Your man crush is a bit over the top. Case played 1 year here and had 13 wins. Kirk didnt come close to that here in ALL the years he has been here FACT. I guess Cousins just didnt get lucky. The guy is so afraid of throwing a pick he will take a sack, or make a bad pass. Or 100 other bad things. Case didnt even have JJ.

Maybe Zim knew his own strengths and weakness. Would have rather taken Cousins money and kept it toward keeping the the D kick ass. Maybe he was annoyed at having to trying and create a whole new offense around Kirk. And liked it the old way which he felt complemented the defense better. Run first. Chew the clock.

That's where I think a lot of his animosity came from. Rick wanted a certain type of team. Zim wanted a different type of team. Rick game him the guys more conducive to what he wanted and Zim still ran it the way he wanted.

At the very least, we'll see KOC TRY to maximize the offense but I think it speaks volumes that KOC, KAM and Donatell are all supposedly on the same page and the primary focus was defense. Their #1 FA was for the d-line. Another important piece for the interior d line. A new linebacker. Two guys for the secondary with their first two picks. A speedy LB in the 3rd. Another DB, and then a DT. Their only offensive position player on day1/2 being an interior o lineman. And then really a bunch of gadget/depth guys for the offense on day 3.

They had a chance to take a guy that would have arguably given then absurd wealth on offense and passed only to parlay it into value on defense.

I will make a point soon. As much as we consider KOC and offensive minded guy, he obviously values defense. Why? I think it's for two reasons. One, I think he knows that no matter what he does to tweak the schemes and potentially make Kirk better, it'll never be to the point that he'll completely carry the team without a solid defense. And two, he knows they're gonna have to move on from Kirk at some point. Soon in fact. By the time you get a new QB in there, your first round WR will be in their 3rd or 4th year. And QB's are such a crapshoot that why invest in those complementary offensive players until you know you've got the right guy.

I appreciate the fact that KOC is an offensive minded guy but clearly not afraid to support the dedication of resources to the defense. Was Zim ever on board with doing that?

In years past, I had to kinda squint and wonder what the overarching game plan was. This year it just makes a lot more sense to me. Don't get me wrong, the execution hasn't been perfect by any stretch. But I get it. And I'm not saying it's the 100% right way to do it, but considering the route they've chosen it actually make a lot of sense.

Fortify the D line with another dynamic pass rusher
Improve the run D with additions on the interior D line and at LB
Improve the the speed and intelligence of the second level.
Improve the secondary overall
Create better depth for the o line. particularly on the interior.

So in essence, he hasn't really gone all in on Kirk as much as people might think. He's essentially hedged his bets. Because per his actions, my guess is that he probably thinks he can make Kirk a bit better. But they're still building elsewhere to create a complete team.

And yet you talk about Kirk and his wins. People like you are hypocrites.
