Welcome one and all to my newest project, the NFL Super Simulator! You may remember my previous simulation article in which I developed a powerful simulation script that could quickly simulate a single game between two teams within a second. I've been spending a lot of time porting that project into a web app, which is now not only available to the public for free (here's the link), but it's even faster now! How about 100 games simmed in 2 seconds?!
Here's a look at a simulation of 100 games between the Vikings and Jets:
You can view any of the 100 games that were simulated, and page through the game logs to see what happened:
And you can even check the averages, even going so far as to getting the average numbers in the passing, rushing, receiving, kicking, and return games.
But wait, there's more! I've also included a Depth Chart Editor and a Coach Sliders Editor as well. You can put in whomever you want at any position in the depth editor:
Because we all want to see what happens when a punter plays, don't we? OK, maybe you don't. But the simulator responds how you think it would:
But you get the point. Want to try Justin Jefferson at running back, see what happens when Sean Mannion or Kellen Mond are in at QB? Bench every starter and see if we can still beat the Lions over 50% of the time? The possibilities are endless!
And the coach editor:
You can modify the running and passing tendencies of each team here. For example, I'm going to have the Vikings run the ball 100% of the time and prove that rushing leads to winning!
Dalvin Cook's legs may fall off - 200 yards a game but only a 7% win rate... though I can confirm that strategy does work better against teams with bad run defenses.
Give the simulator a spin and let me know what you think! Here's the link again. If you're not sure what to do, hit the Info icon in the top right and there's a user guide and more details on how this works.
Like I did with the Python version, I'll go back through the Vikings 2021 season and see how they do compared to what happened in real life. I'll be back soon with the results from the Vikings-Bengals game... but if you don't want to wait, just sim it yourself!
