What would you change?

I do feel the 1998 miss was the most heartbreaking and could have led to a SB win.

But I'm surprised "Teddy doesn't get hurt" isn't getting any support. Even two years ago, I think a huge block of fans believed Bridgewater would have been a savior and leader of a dynasty if he hadn't been hurt. But a couple more mediocre years has proven he is a journeyman and likely would never have become more.

Nonetheless, I think that's a key event - not because we would have had a couple championships, but because it extended the Spielman/Zimmer era. There is no doubt Teddy's injury cause our acquisition of Bradford, a panic move and failure in itself, but it set in motion the events that led to acquiring Cousins. Really, it led to a series of Mulligan years when the Wilfs excused any problems due to QB uncertainty:
2016: "Bradford was learning the offense and getting comfortable with the team, and the team was in shock."
2017: "Bradford got hurt and Case was never expected to do so well - we're just a QB away!"
2018: "It was Cousins' first season, he'll be better next year."
2019: Cousins teased and the Wilfs reportedly got close to dumping Zimmer but held off.
2020: They gave a pass due to Covid.

IMO, with a healthy Bridgewater, it would have been:
2016: 9-7 at best and the Wilfs starting to question Spielman's ability to identify good QBs.
2017: Defense might still take this team to double-digit wins, but I doubt if the lucky breaks that led to 13-3 would have come together in the same way, and certainly no Minneapolis Miracle.
2018: No Cousins signing because Spielman would have picked up Teddy's 5th year and praying he would become a star. But do you think the team that crawled to 8 wins would have done more without Cousins' 30 TD passes? Nope. Zimmer and Spielman would have been fired after the season, and the rebuild could have started in 2019.

Instead, the Wilfs kept hoping they were about to get the final pieces of the puzzle assembled for an extra 3 years.

Having witnessed all of these there's still only one that literally brought me to tears at the end of the game: the Gary Anderson missed FG. That Vikings team had Super Bowl written all over them.

The Walker trade and the Favre game made me livid. The '98 game was soul-crushing.

For me it'd be either '98 or '09 because those teams were IMO championship caliber and positioned to finally win it all. All the others a pretty meaningless to me and make me wonder how Darrin Nelson's NFCCG drop didn't make the list. Wade "Weed Killer" Wilson wasn't exactly known for making perfect throws, but on that play he did.

Aikman had been drafted by the Cowboys before the Walker trade.

Vikings had the ball 3 more times after Gary’s miss.  That was 3 more chances to win. Had it made it, they most probably would have won. But every play after would have been different. I do believe had they made it that year they would have won the Super Bowl. One thing people forget about that game is how good Atlanta was that year. It’s not like they lost to a scrub team or someone who didn’t deserve to be there. 

I'm aware of that, which is why I said the Walsh kick was much worse when it came to just the kick itself.

Wasn't around for Fran or Pearson

I was kinda excited about the Walker trade at the time as a teen fan of course not really realizing the future impact. But even in retro the team just wasn't that good and now we know we really didn't have the other pieces anyway. Especially a QB.

The Anderson kick was the most devastating emotionally. Even if we end up losing in the SB, that was our year. My #1 choice.

Moss traded hurt but the impact wasn't all that great

Daunte getting hurt actually helped the team.

From 98 to 09, I pretty much had no hope anyway so whatever stupid things happened I kind of expected.

Then in '09, some of my hope was restored only to get another kick in the nuts. That games with NO was like the ultimate microcosm of being a Vikings fan and the insane roller coaster
2 TD's on our first two drives (feeling good)
then 4 punts (ok. losing a bit of steam but holding on)
then a stuffed drive for another punt muffed by bush and with a minute left at the 4, they fumble. (here we go again)
then a TD to start the second half. (hope restored)
pick in NO territory (oh boy. ok holding on.)
Harvin fumble followed by a NO TD (hope lost)
Another fumble (all hope lost)
Peterson TD (hope again but still assuming heartbreak)
Driving for the game winning FG. 12 men on the field (typical)
Need a few yards for a FG I've already assumed they'd miss. Intercepted (turns TV off)

Defensive holding call on 3rd down for NO.
Replay upheld on NO catch
NO converts on 4th down after a replay.
Pass interference
Another replay that we lose (on the torture rack at this point just crying for mercy but my tormenter is unrelenting)
Hartley splits the uprights and I'm finally put out of my misery.

That one is #2 only because I expected to be let down. But that roller coaster was pretty amazing.

So another decade plus of zero expectations except for more heartbreak ensues so the Walsh miss in 2015 was met with 'whatever'.

Maybe it was my attitude at the time but I never expected Teddy to be that guy. Just kinda figured something would happen and let me down. And it did. I think my response when I heard he got hurt I kinda shrugged and thought. 'oh well, that's a bummer'
