here is a decent draft breakdown from last year we rank last www.nfl.com/news/2022-nfl-rookie-grades-ranking-the-classes-1-to-32
this is a pretty deep TE class we gave a 2 plus for Hockenson and now have to resign him to a big money deal he was a the end of his cheap years ... we could just have drafted a TE this year 2nd round ...
we are just giving away players like Irv and Cam and Duke and we don't have many draft picks this team is paper thin if Booth Jr Cine and Ingram are busts (just because you play someone in 17 games does not mean they are NOT a bust) along with Evans and Asamoah this team is in deep trouble... Lions have been drafting well recently Bears have drafted well recently ... this could quickly become a downward spiral ... QB is the last thing we should be focussing on
I was probably more bullish on Irv than most here, so I'll give you that. He was a 2nd round pick though and never accomplished what Hock did. That's kind of the point. I'd argue injuries derailed him more than anything, but when he came back, he was pretty clearly rusty this year and had a couple critical drops as well. I don't think you can argue that Irv is an upgrade to Hock... now he may still get there, but the odds are most definitely not in his favor at all, and the injury risk is much higher too. So I understand the move, even though I wouldn't have been against bringing Irv back cheaply. Cam and Duke are different conversations that have been had here. I'd suggest going back and reading them, but understand that people do disagree with you and for good reason... so bringing up those dead horses isn't really going to change anyone's minds.
But to your other points, this team has a lot of holes and not enough draft spots or cap space to fill them, including a succession plan at QB. Kirk is getting old, and he is showing signs of slowing down. I agree that we don't know when, but letting Kirk go and getting a comp pick makes much more sense than another extension and father time catching up. So yeah, having someone to take over is a priority like it or not, and having a good offense around said QB is smart if you want the team to succeed and the QB to have a chance at developing into something halfway decent. So I completely disagree with your last point... QB this draft is probably our top priority. Heck, take one in the first and use a late round pick on another for all I care. They want to give him a chance to develop, which is a far better idea than what most fans want to do which is to toss the guy out to the wolves surrounded by a bunch of crap and hope he swims. This team is definitely primed to take a step back this year due to the draft spots and cap space problem, which I'm somewhat fine with. Kwesi is definitely being careful so as to give us flexibility for 24 and beyond.
I can understand being concerned as he's definitely made some mistakes, but the real test will be to see how he moves forward once he's undone Rick's mistakes and once we can see how good he and KOC are at finding and developing talent.
