March 1-7 - NFL Scouting Combine

March 8 - Deadline for clubs to designate Franchise or Transition players (by 4pm EST)

March 14-16 - Clubs permitted to contact and enter contract negotiations with agents of players who will become unrestricted free agents. (Starting March 14th Noon EST to March 16th 3:59:59pm EST, contracts can't be executed until March 16th 4pm EST)

March 16- 2022 League Year, Free Agency, and Trading Period begins 4pm EST

*Clubs must submit qualifying offers to Restricted Free Agents to retain Right of First Refusal/Compensation (prior to 4pm EST)

*Top 51 rule begins. All clubs must be under the 2022 salary cap (prior to 4pm EST)

*All 2021 player contracts expire at 4pm EST

March 27-30 - Annual League Meeting

April 4 - Vikings can begin offseason workout programs

April 20 - Deadline to bring draft-eligible players to facilities for physicals

April 22 - Deadline for Restricted Free Agents to sign offer sheets

April 27 - Deadline for prior club to exercise Right of First Refusal to Restricted Free Agents. Deadline to time, test, and interview draft-eligible players.

April 28-30 - NFL Draft

May 2 - Deadline for clubs to exercise 5th year option for players selected in 1st round of 2019 NFL Draft

May 6-9 or 13-16 - Clubs may elect to hold 1 3-day post-draft rookie minicamp.

May 23-25 - Spring League Meeting

A few important early Vikings dates:
March 19: Dalvin Tomlinson base salary ($4.9M) is fully guaranteed (OTC valuation $6.437M)
March 20: Harrison Smith base salary ($2.95M) and roster bonus ($8M) become fully guaranteed (OTC valuation $9.03M)
March 20: Michael Pierce base salary ($7.9M) becomes fully guaranteed (OTC valuation $1.953M)
March 20: Dalvin Cook base salary (($8.3M) becomes fully guaranteed (OTC valuation $5.694M)

The Pierce situation is the one that stands out to me as requiring action prior to March 20 (trade, renegotiation, release).

My bet is he gets released. They may explore a trade but who would give anything for him now?

It is situation were a player has a roster bonus that is much larger than base salary that have to be worked out before the bonus date. I think Hunter and Smith are the ones with the clock ticking on their contracts.

Keep in mind that Day 1 of the "Legal Tampering Period" is essentially Day 1 of free agency, when a good share of the Tier 1 free agent deals will be announced, just not "officially" signed/executed until Wednesday.

By the time you get to the actual Day 1 of free agency/start of the 2022 League Year on Wednesday, you're pretty much into Tier 2 already.

Even though the Vikings don't technically have to be under the cap until Wednesday at 4PM and Hunter's roster bonus isn't due until next weekend, if the Vikings are going to pursue any "significant" free agents, you'd have to think the decisions on Kirk and Hunter would need to be made early/mid this weekend so they can work on those free agent possibilities mid/late this weekend and be ready to announce them on Monday or Tuesday.

As far as IOL free agents, I would anticipate Jensen, Scherff, L Tomlinson, J Daniels, B Bozeman and possibly A Corbett deals to be "announced" either Monday or Tuesday, and Cappa, B Allen, C Williams and B Jones deals to be announced Wed/Thurs.

I tend to agree. One would think something has been done. That also tells me they're looking at a few options for building the team. I suspect Cousins is the first domino to fall, whether that be by extension, trade, or playing it out. It kind of changes what they do from there. I've got to think they're listening to offers for Kirk, whether said offers are worth it, who knows.
